Harrah's vs. Schiavio

Harrah's (the giant corporation that owns the World Series of Poker) has been battling with Federiko Sciavio for years over the trademark WSOP and the domain wsop.com.

Harrah's bought Binion's Horseshoe (the home of the World Series of Poker) when it went under in 2004 and says the WSOP trademark and domain should belong to them.

Schiavio says he got permission from Becky Binion to use the domain name and registered the trademark to go with it.

If you heard wsop.com would you think automatically of the World Series of Poker?

If that wasn't negoiated @ the time of the sale and in the contract then they are stupid. That's like saying "your car was in the driveway when I bought your house so it should belong to me now"

just because they bought the house, they shoudn't assume events in it and websites/domains associated come included.

What's more, Harrah's made sure they had the rights to the Horseshoe brand (which they kept as well), and pretty much everything associated with World Series of Poker EXCEPT the WSOP stuff.

I contacted Harrah's but they no-commented because it's before the court.

I've arranged to interview Fedrico Schiavio and will update the blog soon.

The person I'd love to talk to is Jack Binion.

He was pushed after a legal battle with his sister becky who promptly ran her grandfather's properties into the ground.
