Caesars Indiana Road Trip
Actually it's me Young Grimmm, however I can't remember my password and my email address has changed so I thought I'd just re-register.
So my buddies and I headed to the good old US of A to catch the Breeders Cup at Churchill Downs (8 championship horse races in one afternoon) and decided to stay at the Caesars in Indiana to play cards when we weren't at the track.
They were hosting a WSOP circuit event which was kind of cool. We watched some of the final table when it was down to just 3 players. Some little gangsta kid who didn't look 12 let alone 21 ended up taking it down. Apparently he's some internet star from Coral Gables FL named Chad deBatista.
The poker room is a good size, I believe at peak times there were over 30 tables on the go. We played a little bit of 1-2 NL (my first time actually) and some 2-4-4-8 which I had never encountered before. The competition was truly brutal in almost all cases (except for 2 guys at my 1-2 NL table).
Thursday night I played exclusively 2-4-4-8 and cashed out for $5 more than my $200 buy-in after paying for all-and there were many-drinks (Indiana law prohibits giving away booze at casinos). A few hands of note, pick up AA in mid-position and end up making quads on the river. I was first to act after the river and I was pondering whether to bet or see if anyone would bluff at the board (there was a K, Q and a J showing). I was drumming my fingers on the table which the dealer suddenly interpreted as a check and the hand got checked down (didn't matter, I was drunk and I don't think they'd have called a bet anyway) (Interesting side note--> my 2 other buddies, on 2 different tables both also made quads that night!) The other hand had me with AA in late position with 4 callers already in. I call and the SB completes and BB checks. Flop comes A88 with a 2 flush. BB bets I call as does everyone else. Turn brings a blank. BB player bets again I call and one other guy calls. River brings K to complete the flush. BB bets I raise other guy folds BB re-raises and we continue to re-raise each other until we each have put $48 in on the river at this point I think holy shit I'm up against quad 8s and I call his last bet.We flip and he's got the flush and I take down a nice pot. The reason I hesitated in re-raising yet again was I'd seen him go twice all in ($8 at a time) with another guy heads-up and showed down the nuts.
Friday night played completely sober the whole time and ended up around $60 on the 2-4-4-8 table. Again competition was brutal.
Saturday got pretty liquored and played 2-4-4-8 and the 1-2 NL and ended up ahead around $50 or so. With the exception of a couple guys at the 1-2 NL table I felt like I was in control of the table and had the best grasp of the game of everyone there. Thanks for all the posts which I've tried to read and absorb!
My questions now are 2:
How badly did I play my flopped full house? Was i afraid of Monsters Under Bed?
What adjustments should I have made to my game for the 2-4-4-8 game vs a regular 2-4 or a regular 4-8 game? I tried to see a lot of flops because it was really cheap.
Thanks Guys,
Young Grimmm
(and I had a huge day at the Breeders Cup where I hit Miesque's Approval at 24-1 and cashed for over 1K!)
I came home with $125 more than what I left with with all expenses covered.
