Go Popkorn! WPT Final Table

Just wanted to take a second to wish forum member Popkorn, all the best, as he embarks on the WPT final table this afternoon.

2nd in chips, with a very health stack. All the best John!!

Canada is *very* well represented at the final table, so no doubt, there will be a lot of happy hosers later today.

  • Hell ya - it would be awesome if a local player took down the title. Good luck!
  • amazing news. best of luck!
  • Best of luck
  • All the best Korn!!!

I see the KrazyKanuck is there too, and John Juanda is in pretty sad state to start the final table. He'll need to at LEAST double up once just to stay alive into the first couple of blinds.
  • Best of luck Popkorn.
  • Congrats to Joe Zapps who finished 25th and Sean Burstein who took 31st.
Both are regular River Room players.
  • While not local, Marc Karam is from Ottawa and one of the most feared on line players. I"ve had the pleasure? of playing him. He regularly posts on pokerpoker.ca.
  • Wow! 3rd place? Congrats man. I'm sure a post about the entire experience would be a very interesting read. What's third 400 g's or so? Way to go!

    Cheers
  • Congratulations to Popkorn for winning $353K from a $160 satellite! :wav: He was surprised that we kept shouting "Popkorn" from the audience.

    6) Marc Karam - Ottawa - $169,027
    5) John Juanda - Las Vegas - $217,320
    4) Jim "Krazy Kanuck" Worth - Toronto - $289,760
    3) John Lam - Toronto - $352,541
    2) Jason Sagle - Sudbury - $676,107 + 12th place in WPT CPO
    1) Soren Turketwitsch - Oshawa - $1,352,224 from a $90 satellite!

Honourable mention to new hostess Sabina Gadecki for being even more gorgeous than Shana Hiatt and Courtney Friel. :h: See my new avatar for a photo of Sabina, NOT of myself!
  • Congrats John!

  • Congrats on the terrific result!

I've give the new hostess a solid "meh".
  • WOW!!! Congratulations Popkorn!

    :wav:
  • Nice to see that 5 of 6 top finishers were Canadians.

  • Amazing result John! You must be thrilled - and probably really drained. It's so awesome that local players were able to step up and represent. Way to go guys.

I can vouch that that pic is NOT Blondefish. I guess the vegas boys and girls didn't do so well against the home crowd boys. $90 to 1.3 million. The next Moneymaker. Congrats to Popkorn for his excellent finish.
  • Thanks for all the support guys! Really appreciated it! And also thanks for the support at the final table too! It was great meeting some of the guys from the forum.

I'm just stuck at work right now, and also very very sick with the flu. The tournament was pretty bad to my health. But I'll definately do a write up for you guys about the whole experience within the next week or so.
  • Never mind the report.... what are you going to do with all the cash??? Atlantis in Bahamas is my choice and you can play poker when you are not chasing the bikinis around the beach! Nice finish! Looking forward to the televised episode. Since there aren't too many forum members that have scored a win this big, did you find the level of play that much different than other tournaments you have played in (not sure if you play forum events) or did luck play a big part in making the final table (did you crack a few pair of aces along the way to the final six)?

    ?? Work?

Shouldn't you be meeting with an agent right now?

    Congrats, very nice job!
  • A belated well done to Popkorn

I would suggest to play in live satelites instead of online. I feel you play your best at live games than online games...especially satelites.
  • but of course, if you can't make it to the casino or nobody is hosting.....than online can be very convenient!
  • cool thanks for the headsup, so John how was cutting through the field, like 450?

With me personally, I prefer live satellites over online satellites, maybe cause my online play is a lot weaker than my live game play.

Cutting through that field was insane, I actually thought I wasn't even going to make it through day 1, my table was one of the tougher starting tables, and we were playing with the same 7 players almost to the very end of that day. I mean I was down to less than 5000 chips halfway through the day. And I remember the grind on day 2 when I was short stacked for about 4-5 hours having only about 25% of the average stack, but when day 3 came (we were all in the money at that point), and we had to play down to the final tv table, I was able to stay close to one of the chip leaders till the end of that day. I have to give credit to the players that gave me a hard time throughout the tournament: Victor Ramdin, Kam Low (a high stakes online player), John Juanda, Steve Ambrose, and John Dagostino. They taught me so much that helped me make it so far.
  • Thanks for the insight, sounds like it was a major battle and well deserved 3rd place. Hope to see u at future tourneys

Any chance of seeing a tournament report, or tips for playing against some of these players? What did they teach you?
