Alberta Casinos

Is there anyone from Calgary or Alberta that can give me more information about the Cash Casino of Calgary, and the Deerfoot Inn and Casino?

And also the Cash Casino at Red Deer if anyone plays there.

  • What do you need to know?

Cash Casino has 2 tourneys Mon - Thur a Rebuy 20+2 at 1PM and a 50+6 freezeout at 7:30PM. Fri - Sun they only have the 1PM Rebuy tourney. After the tourneys they have some cash games mostly 4-8 (might be DC) Limit an 1-2 NL, maybe 1 or 2 of each. I'm not sure how long the games last, I pretty sure the games don't go til morning.

Deerfoot Casino usually has from 6-8(or 9 I forget) games going in the evening. 2-4 4-8 LHE and 2-4 1-2 NL HE are going and most days a 2-5 NL HE and sometimes a 2-5 Pot limit DC game gets going.

This info is about 2 months old, but I don't see it changing much as this has been the way it's been going for a while.
  • How are the games the cash games? Are they soft? What about the tournaments, how is the structure?

My brother used to work there. They have a very small poker room and spread different limits on different nights. Everyone there is a regular, they know all of the staff and all of each other by name.

They also have tournaments, but a casual chat with the floor manager for the poker room made me never want to play in one. They are basically turbos, with 10 minute levels (this is live play with no auto-shufflers or anything), they do typically sell out every time however, so there is lots in the pot!

    Good luck!
  • The cash games are for the most part softer than soft. 6-10 people see the flop in the LHE games. For the NL I believe about on par with a $10 or $25 NL games online, these guys suck.

For the tourneys at Cash the structure sucks. 15 rounds, the dealers suck(the worst in town), and the blinds go up pretty fast.

I've got a sister in Calgary. Next time I visit, I might be tempted to visit the local casinos. Where would you recommend?
  • depends on what you play. If your looking for a tourney unfortunately Cash is your only real option(except on Wednesday, I think Casino Calgary runs a small rebuy tourney).

For cash games if you play low limit HE any of Elbow River, Casino Calgary, Deerfoot Inn and Stampede Casino will do. For NL Deerfoot Inn would be your most consistent option, also Casino Calgary, Stampede and Cash usually have a 1-2 game going. The only casino with higher limit action is Elbow River which usually has a 15-30 game going.

But if your playing low limit either NL or LHE it doesn't really matter where you play, the action is all really juicy. Just the difference in the quality of the dealers.

Dealer quality I would rank as:
    First - Elbow River,
    Second - Deerfoot Inn,
Third(although quite close with Deerfoot) - Casino Calgary
    Four - Stampede
and distant last - Cash Casino
  • I played at the Deerfoot in the loosest game ($4-$8 ) I've ever seen in my whole life. My trip report is on here somewhere, right around the end of August/beginning of September.
