Toronto Argos Charity Poker Tournament

Hi All,
I'm playing in the $250 a seat charity poker tournament, run by Bowmans.com in downtown Toronto tonight, just wondering if anyone else from the forum was going to be there?

It should be a great event, 1 argo celebrity at everytable, and full of people who won't be playing serious poker. :D

If I do well, I'll be sure to post the results, and if I donk out early... I'm sure I won't post it. :D

Cheers,
=D

I just got invited on tuesday, so didn't have much of a chance to warn anyone; but trust me you are glad you didn't go.

I had assumed since Bowmans.com was organizing the tournament it would be well run... I was mistaken, it was a joke. The blinds excalated at such a ridiculously rapid rate, that it was a complete crapshoot. With the amount of time wasted explaining the game to the newbies I think I played only 6 or 7 hands before the blinds got around to me, and I was forced all-in because they were bigger than my stack... BRUTAL!!

Anyone play with bowmanspoker.com? Is it as poorly run as this event was?
  • its interesting how they can run a non-casino charity poker tournament with no fuss from the cops... not sure why other charities have such a problem organizing tournaments. I don't understand these inconsistencies??
  • The difference is probably the level of accountability. This is a registered charity that is running the event, as opposed to someone just running a tournament and claiming that the proceeds are going to a charity.
  • + Pinball = mayor of Toronto

Pinball should be mayor of toronto... I'd be more proud of having him as mayor than the Bad Boys guy... nobody's better than pinbal.. noooooooooobody.

Also, the reason this charity poker tournament doesn't get flack, is the fact they awarded prizes that were not cash... some quite valuable stuff was awarded to the winners; but I'm sure it was all "donated" so as to avoid any issues with the police.
