Questions about WPT - NAPC

I guess this is mainly for 13 cards - but maybe someone else knows the answer to these...

What were the last-second satellites like this weekend? Lots of action, any Vegas-types there?

Any idea of approximately how big the field is now?

Are they going to split the tournament into separate Day 1's? If so, will it be a wedneaday/thursday type deal, and when will we find out what day we are playing?

What time can we show up for registration on Wednesday? Is 7 a.m. too early? (I need to register and then go book into my hotel.)

Will they be serving beverages in the Grand Hall?

Can I bring a pad/pen for notetaking?

Sorry for the barrage of questions but if you can help out, it's most appreciated. Thanks,

Alistair

  • I just called the poker room and was able to get a bit of info...

    Check-in starts at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

It was confirmed that if there are more than 300 in the field--which they believe there will be--then the are going to do the Day 1 split. But he didn't know how and what kind of split it would be. I am guessing half and half for each day (makes the most sense).

They do have beverages served in the room, and a bar outside the room for booze.

He didn't know about pen/paper but said MP3s are fine. I am bringing my notebook anyways. (I seriously doubt they have a rule against this.)

A whopping 17 $1,200 sats were run on Saturday. And they did brisk business yesterday, with 5 on the go right now. Still not too late to take a shot at this guys...

A few Vegas types were spotted in the poker room this weekend, and rumours of a big turnout from the Full Tilt team are spreading (not including those wrapped up in the legal battle).

While MP3 players are allowed, other electronic devices are not allowed to be used in the playing area. I wanted to use my personal organizer away from the table, but I was told that I would have to leave the whole playing area. I could not use a calculator to track my M, Q, or average stack. :(

Pen and paper are allowed. There were two of us in my table that were taking notes.

The free food and drinks inside the Grand Hall included: orange juice, apple juice, Pepsi, tea, water, pizza, cookies, potato chips, sausages, fries and battered fish.
  • Thanks for the info Blondefish.

I think I am going to stay away from the battered and fatty foods. I can't imagine a worse scenario than having to take a wicked dump during a big event like this. I eat a lot of spicy food, and I've been in enough poker games where I had to go bad, and it's the worst feeling. "Hmm, I've got pocket Aces, should I raise, and risk sharting myself, or fold, and run to the toilet to let the dogs loose." (Well, not as bad as the time I had a big steak dinner on New Years Eve, and then after I did a bunch of pills and had to take a dump at the "2nd worst toilet in Scotland" but you get my drift.)

See, these are the kinds of things I think about before the big games. I am a blank slate.

And I am definitely laying off the beers. I might have one vodka redbull after the dinner break (if I am still playing) but that's it. Oh, don't get me wrong, if I bust out I predict a firestorm of alcoholism at noted Niagara Falls destination "The Sundowner," but not during the tournament. Besides, I sold 5% of myself to my poker group and I can't let them down. Playing in a tune-up last night, I swore to a newly adopted conservative style, and then proceeded to flame out spectacularly with a questional pre-flop steal, which resulted in a distaterous all in bet on the flop. Hopefully that's the last all-in I lose for the next 5 or 6 days...
