What does Brantford have?
Ok, so I live in Brantford (ok, stop laughing now), and was curious what do they have in their poker room? NL/Limit? And what are the rake values?
Only went to the casino once, took $10 for slots, won $6 on my 2nd spin, and quit on the spot. Such a cheapskate.

Anyway, as someone has already said it has 2-5, 5-10, 10-20, 20-40 and it I'm not mistaken it has the occasional 50-100 table. No NL games.
Thanks for the info. I have very little experience in limit and doubt if I could muster up enough courage to take a couple hundred bucks down there. And knowing me, if I won the first hand in the bb since everybody folded to me, I would probably leave on the spot!

A couple of weeks ago at Brantford, they had only one table of 2/5 going on a Friday evening. Although I never actually looked at the list (so I don't know), I would assume the wait would be *very* long.
Never been to Rama, so I don't know what the action is like.
BIG ADVICE: The rake at the 2/5 is insanity. They take $1 per $10 (i.e. 10%) up to a $5 max. The rake is identical at 5/10, and the quality of opponents (at least in Brantford) remains poor. Try the 5/10 if you are comfortable at that level in terms of your bankroll. The 5/10 rake is still steep, but still beatable with solid play.

This weekend will likely be another 2/5 table at Rama because my wife is going to be playing as well (her 2nd time at a B&M) and I don't think she would feel comfortable at the higher limit. Give her a few more sessions though and I think she'll be up to it. Her first trip at Rama she did pretty well, buying in for $100 and leaving with $136 a few hours later. Actually it was a lot of fun sitting at a table with her... but that's another story.
I'm all set to make a move to 5/10 when the Ex opens. They don't offer anything lower, and it's a short walk away for me. Hopefully I'll run into some of the pokerforum members there as well.
The opponent skill differences between 2/5 and 5/10 are probably not going to be very noticable. The most important consideration is bankroll. You've got to be comfortable winning and losing about twice as much as you might at the 2/5. There are still going to be up and down swings even if you are the best playre at the table whatever limit you're playing at.
If you're doing well at the 2/5 in the long run, I think you'd have no problem with the 5/10.

At 10/20 it changes to a time charge of $5 per half hour. Assuming full (10 player) games, the 10/20 always takes $100 off the table in one hour, while the expected hourly rake at 5/10 is around $150. Note that the *absolute* house drop at 10/20 is actually lower than the typical drop at 5/10. Considering the stakes have also doubled, the 10/20 house drop is *far* more advantagous to the player.

Brantford sprewads the 2-5 game only from monday-fridays. Game seems to break in the middle of night most times. They then start a 2-5 game noon every week day if it has been busted up. This is advertised throughout the casino, seems they are looking for new fishies to fill up the room.
I have not played the 2-5 but wanna hear about it, the 0-20 seems to have gotten much crappier in the past month.
