How to spend poker winnings?

I recently did a cash out after all the "sky is falling, sky is falling" last week. Really, I don't play enough to take that much of an advantage of a big bankroll, so I now have a juicy check in my back pocket.

What would you do with the money? What if it was $500? $1000? More?

  • I already have a vacation planned and paid for (not from poker winnings however).

TV seems like a good idea, but mine all still work and are of decent sizes. Also with little ones and sticky hands it just doesn't seem like the right purchase right now. Do any tv stands come with a built in electric fence?

I am REALLY tempted to try for a big score in a big tournament, but my poker game isn't that good and I would feel awful to lose it all. This fear would probably not allow me to play my best either.

PS3 is over priced, just in time for the holiday season. Seem to be some issues with the first gen. versions of the console with things like overheating and disc read errors. Might wait until the price comes down to jump on that train. Also, would have to guarentee that Guitar Hero 1 & 2 run on it.

So I am stuck, what to do with the money?
  • I took a fair chunk of my Blackjack winnings out to pay for my trip to Newfoundland this summer. But other than that, I re invest it all back into playing more. That way, I don't get tempted to take money away from household necessities or from other committments.

I agree about bankroll management, but I honestly don't plan on playing that much, I did leave myself a pittence with (with the paradise bonus) is now up over $100 again, so a-rebuilding we will go.

did you get that friggin dryer yet?
  • i say dump your cash into the 'help greg retire before he dies' fund
  • I couldn't vote since the options are all "spend it" - you should add "Keep it in bankroll" or "Other" to your options. Also, I usually don't use "excess bankroll" (is there such a thing?) to play bigger tournaments, but I do use it to play more tournaments at my normal buy-ins.

Personally, I just withdrew a big chunk for Disney. Now I'm rebuilding but have no plans on making any withdrawals for quite a while (although Jenn and I do have plans once we hit a certain point).

DUDE!!! SHUT UP!! SHE OFTENS READS THIS FORUM!!
  • Coming very very soon to a Costco near you:
    http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcdtv/n3752w/

This is in their computer system at $999.

    I am so there.
  • First off, Congrats Adam! "Free" money is so cool.

As I've stated before, my short term goal was a trip to Las Vagas with the boys. However, I'm not sure if/when there is a trip upcoming (anybody?) so I'll keep saving and wait it out.

With a big score, I would spend it something "nice" I know I'm going to want late in life. My pick today would be another new guitar. Then I could change my avatar!

    Johnnie.

ps...Props to beanie42 for taking his family of 7 to Disney with his poker winnings. Truely an outstanding accomplishment!! Well done!

How many tables fit on that screen?
  • I like the challenge of rebuilding Adam, I usually play until my bankroll hits a certain amount then I cash some out to do whatever, trip to vegas, some books, some frivolous crap, pay down some debt, whatever. Then I rebuild!
This time around I am keeping my bankroll intact and moving up in limits as it allows, just to see how I do, a self test.
I think there's no right way or wrong way the bottom line is you've earned that money it's yours to do as you wish. Whatever you feel good about is all that matters.
If you're thinking console tho I gotta tell ya from what I've heard the ps3 is gonna be garbage, by that I mean not worth the cost, and I believe Guitar Hero is coming for the Xbox 360!!!!!
  • p.s. Joe, I really, really, I mean really miss the old avatar!!!!!!

I don't say 'bless you' nearly enough these days!
  • The options don't quite suit me...here's what I did;

Bought a dishwasher, a new bed and a new computer with a bigger screen. Trusting Kevin Smith's writing that the internet is solely for looking at porn and bitching about movies..I'll quote a friend who says I used the money "to fulfill my contractual obligations as 'woman.' What else can a man ask for from you?"

and now that I've got that out of the way-I can focus solely on more poker.
    ;)

Next big win I hire someone to clean for me!
  • I'm usually keep a few hundred online and that's it. I don't play with a big bankroll and stick to lower limit tables. Once I get over a few hundred of the normal bankroll...I'll withdraw it and spend it. Over the past couple years, I've gotten a Clarion deck, sub & amp and now the newest purchase for my place:

My roommate also bought the 32" ViewSonic for $799 at Costco a few months back, it's good quality.
