Late tourny Exits
Hi All:
First let me tell a little about myself. I started online with real money around the end of Feb. I started off mostly playing limit and working my way up to the 3/6 limit range before taken a 3 week slide and having to drop back down to 2/4. I've also sat and played at Nl$25,$50,and $100 and have done very well..
I played some tournies but not alot while I was grinding at the limit tables.. Lately (last couple Weeks) I've been playing 3-5 a day time permitting.
My question is this. I've seen pretty good improvemements in my MTT (multi Table tourny) play to the point I seem to consistantly be finishing most in late rounds someplace around the Bubble.. I've had 5 or 6 cashes but prolly three times that having my MTT ended with in 75 of the money.
My thinking is this in MTT's.. I let the maniacs go wild and try to play tight picking up the odd pot here and there.. Middle to later rounds I continue play tight but be a little more aggressive to try and build a stack and make a move for the final table in decent shape. As I get closer to the bubble I find I open up a little to pick off some blinds when everyone tightens up waiting to get in money.. Usually blinds are so big by then if your not with a decent size stack your just looking for the highest placing you can get. Thats where I open up trying to make a push for the Final Table and to get there with some ammo..
In the last 20 or so MTT's I've had them ended late in around 10 of them. I've cashed high up in 3-5 and had one 9th place. The rest busting out early...
Finally to my question. Does this look like I'm on the right track to improving and maybe winning or placing top 3 or am I missing out totally? Also could it be I'm tiring a bit in late rounds and loosening up to much on my Preflop hand selections?
Any help Advice appreciated

last 3 weeks have been amazing with 6 top 10 finishes and most others busting in tournines in the top 50-100 people.
My consistancy has put me in the top 15-20% almost every tourny I enter giving me oodles of confidence...
peace out.
Made it to 35th in a 250K qualifier sat $3 rebuy on Stars. Sat chips paid to 27th, 28th got cash left over. $98 I think.
Was pretty smooth sailing up until the end. lol Then I fell apart. Called a large bet I took for a steal. My A9o hit a high pair. Didn't take long after that hand. lol
Playing lots helps me learn more. I recommend that. lol
Lost most of it in second hour to two hands. Quads and trips. That's poker.
Long overde response. Sorry.
I think you look like you are very much on the right track. I say that, not so much because of your description of strategy (which looks pretty good to me), but because of your willingness to be self-critical. I am , at this very moment, writing October's Poker Player Spotlight for CPP about Bob Jarrett. He just played the Bike's $5K event and had a powerful observation which I paraphrase here: "Making the occasional bad play really motivates me to play well." Makes sense to me.
Having said that, your basic approach looks very sound to me. If you are struggling to "get over the hump" I suspect that it is one of two things: (1) A short term run of bad luck; or (2) Some misunderstanding of the situation you find yourself in.
What I suggest isthat you start posting some very specific hands to this forum. You may learn (or teach us) about what specific thinkgs you are doing right or wrong.
And to sign off... Sometimes there is NOTHING you can do about it. Here is a hand hiistory from a big buy-in multi table tournament I played yesterday. Rarely do these things bother me, but I am still reeling over this hand (my comments are embedded throughout):

OH MY GOD. 9-6? HE CALLED NOT ONE, NOT TWO, BUT THREE BIG BIG BETS WITH NOTHING. NO DRAW. JUST TWO OVERCARDS THAT WERE ONLY NINE HIGH??? WOW.
And the moral is: Sometimes there is NOTHING you can do.
I feel bad for all three of you. But obviously, in very very different ways.
The thing with poker is that players with absolutely positively no chance in the world to win can still win. It makes the game sick and great all at once.

I woulda all in'd flop, but QQ is my nemesis. I always overplay it.
Damn.
25$ rebuy tourny with 212 entrants
10K guaranteed pool
1st paid $3405 and change )
I played my normal game I listed in my first post. was like 5-7th hitting final table..
I waited for hands occasionally stealing 1 or 2 blinds an orbit then with about 6 opened up a tad and made a push..
got lucky with 2 pf all ins where I was behind and hit on the flop...
1 I had JTs on a attempted steal from LP and a blind pushed with KQo but I had 8-3 stack advantage and called..
I hit 2 pair.. down to 5
2 hands later almost identical play my QJs took out an AKo from a smaller stack...4 left
Cannot remember the exact hand I think QQ but I managed to double up off the the chip leader and had a 3-1 chip advantage over the rest of the field..
I picked away at the rest and 2 more fell one to me giving me a 5-1 chip lead over 2nd when we hit HU play...
3 or 4 hands of me min raising and him folding I decided to use my chips..
I'd raise from SB every hand worth playing and if he come out with a Raise I decided to put him all in
4th or 5th hand I had K3s and he raised I pushed..
he calls and flips QQ ) whoops
4-2 chip lead now and I stay aggressive not giving away a blind for about 7 hands..
BB I get QTo and he raises I re-raise he pushes I call...
He flips TT I show my QTo
flop hits Q43
turn Q434
river Q434x it's over...
After my first 6 top 10's I had seen the article in Canadian Poker Player and decided to try and build a stake for the Casino Yellowhead Canadian Championship event..
I was hoping to play both the Limit and NL events and wanted to raise the money from poker winnings this month to pay for all...
With this Tournament win I will be in Edmonton to play in those 2 events..
Maybe I'll see some of you there...
Good Luck and Good Cards

Congrats, and good luck in Edmonton
do you have to pre register for Edmonton or do they accept walk ins?
