My attempt to qualify for WPT Fallsview

I have been trying to think of a way to qualify for the WPT Fallsivew.

I have tried to qualify through Paradise Poker through super satellites. I have made it thought the super satelite to the main satelite a few times with no luck. It seems there is always only one seat available and although I gotten deep into the field, no luck as of yet.

I have thought of going to play the satelites live, but have not made the attempt yet. It seems that these satelites at Fallsview are a crapshoot at best. Also living on the Scarborough / Ajax  border, to get to Niagara Falls is a 3+ hour round trip and would have to make this trip at least 2 times if lucky and many more if unlucky.

I would like know if anyone has any other suggestions? I am open to advice.

As of now I will try my own steps (just like Party Poker). I will play a $ 10.00 SNG and move up one level until I have 2 + buy ins for the next level.

This may take some time. I have one month.

  • Ok, step one done, finnished first for $50.00, net $39.00.

Moved to step two $22.00. Finnish 4th - Net 17.00. Back to step 1
  • Well if you don'y make it that way, the 1200 (1 table) and 640 (2 table) at Fallsview aren't exactly crapshoots... With good tight aggressive play a decent player should have a reasonable shot at these.
  • Played 3 more $11.00, one 2nd place. Net $14.00.

    And one more Net $23.00
  • I agree, the $1200 at fallsview is not a crapshoot at all.
  • Here's a question how much of a % of the buy in do you play in satelites before quiting or just forking up the buy in itself. For big events and for smaller ones like the 215$ Stars tournies.
  • For tournaments on line, I very rarely buy in. I will always play a satelite. That being said, I will pay around 30 to 50% of the buy in to try to qualify, I never play turbos, and if I don't qualify I move on. As far as the stars 215, I have only played this twice (I think). I never have 6+ hours interuption free at home on a Sunday.

Live tournaments are a different story. I like the way I play live. I will buy in for much more if I like the format. I will try the satelite for the Niagara $2700.00 and if I don't qualify, I may buy in. The 10K buy in, would never happen unless I win a satelite, even if the buy is only 25% of my bank roll. I guess I am toooooo cheap. I can get alot of poker in for that money elsware.
  • Why are you willing to pay around 50% for a satellite qualifier? That pretty much means you have to win that sat in one shot to make it worth while. I think its more 20% absolute max for me online.

I am not saying one satelite for 50%, maybe 2 or 3 to a max of 50%
  • Interesting stuff thx. I'm gonna try to get a job here at my university and play satelites on Stars. I really dislike SNGs, and i obviously dont finish in the money in MTT as much as SNGs but i still prefer that format and want the opportunity to make a big score/ finish. I was wondering how much i should spend trying to qualifiy for the 215$ and tounries like that.

    5 AM!!!
  • I am almost two weeks into this trial and not having very much luck, other than when I have queens in the hole, someone always has aces.

I have gotten to level three in my attempts and still plus $ 24.00.

Went to Niagara yesterday to play the 330 satelite. Finnished 2nd and 2nd. Had the best cards with 3 players left in each case and lost almost every time. I need the poker gods to stay out of the way or come to my side.

AA three handed and the other two make a 9 high straight. Trap my opponet heads up with KK and he rivers a set.

Back next Friday to use my voucher.
