Based on Wes' run, probably not a good analogy. :)

I guess it's been a while and I owe you guys an update... First thing though, get you F'in colonoscopy's done, it does save lives and these things are much easier to deal with in an early stage... No history previously in my family so don't let that influence your decision, it's only 1 small factor. My brother and all three of my sons now are getting it done. Really a simple procedure, and the stuff you need to drink ahead of time is really not that bad..
As for me I started pill form chemo (Capecitabine) mid Feb and should finish mid July. The schedule is basically 2 weeks on, 1 week off for 24 weeks. After that it will likely be another colonoscopy and scan, fingers crossed everything comes back clean and I go on monitoring for however long. I do not plan on becoming an entry in the reaper thread any time soon.
Every day is different though, some days I feel almost normal, other days quite tired and ill. I guess this is the way it is for a while. I am back at work at least 3/4 time, bored (and broke;)) otherwise...

Glad to see this, Jeff. And yeah, family history means squadoosh. Get them to photograph your best side, gents. You'll be better off in the end.

Thanks for the update Dad. I'm sure you will be back on your weak-tight game very soon.
I'm not ashamed to tell everyone that I went for a prostate check this week. Had some blood work done (came back fine) but the doc decided to stick his finger up my ass anyways just to be sure. Everything seemed normal and no, I didn't get an erection.
Get your poppers and testies checked out fellas!

I am afflicted with Colitis, so I have been having a camera inserted up there periodically for going on 20 years now. Every other year for me as each passing year gives me an increased chance of the big "C". It doesn't hurt, it doesn't take much time and it just might mean you get to play the Royal Cup for a lot longer than otherwise.

I go Tuesday for my full day exam at Medcan..... I get everything done under the sun. Last year for the finger in the bum I had a huge Russian doctor..... this year I put in a request for a tiny Asian with petite fingers or a female doctor again with slim fingers.
they do get sick of me singing Moon River upon insertion.

For you young fellas that don't get the moon river joke.......

I have alot of colon cancer in my family and lucky me I have the gene which creates polyps which over time turn to cancer. I therefore have the test yearly (last 15 years) , another note if polyps are found regularly during a colonoscopy you should also have your stomach scoped as well. The same cancer can be linked to polyps in the stomach.

Hope the treatment goes well Comp...GFY cancer!!!

pro tip: if you feel two hands on your shoulders during the test, you may want to consider another doctor.

Speaking from experience I gather?

on a serious note though, glad to hear you are doing well - will take the advice on getting checked!

Hey Comp,
Was checking out some of the non-WSOP threads here and just found this thread. Sorry to hear about your battle with the big C and glad to hear things are going well. I went through my own battle going on 9 years ago now (prostate) and I've been clean since my surgery. You're bang on about getting things checked early. My cancer was completely unexpected (I was pretty young to have prostate cancer) but it was uncovered thanks to my family doctor's insistence on annual check ups, including the dreaded DRE. He also sends me for regular colonoscopies (I'm on the 5-year plan). The silver lining for me is no more fingers up the bum, nothing to see there anymore!
In all seriousness, keep up the good fight. Still lots of poker in your future.

I guess this thread is owed a long overdue update since it was March I last posted anything official..
Finished the chemo near the end of July, thank god, it was getting tough by the end. Blood tests every 3 weeks were telling us we were on course. Then I had about 6 weeks off to sort of return to "normal".. Aug 22nd appt with family dr re physical, of course blood test done as a result of that show a higher then normal PSA, great, now I'm thinking prostate...
Sends me to urologist who does the JohnnieH thing, says doesn't feel too bad, easy for him to say. lol, sends me for 2 more sets of blood tests a month apart to verify. Will see him again next Monday for results of those...
However in the meantime, Sept 12th I went to Credit Valley for CAT scans, then anxiously awaited the results until Sept 18 where I am told that all looks good, huge sigh of relief... Of course I still have to go regularly for checkups, blood tests, etc every 3 months but decreasing in frequency over time. Today I had a scheduled colonoscopy (just love that whole experience), preliminary results of that were very good so fingers crossed I may have beaten the colon thing. Just have to get an all clear on the prostate and hopefully I'll be back donating chips to all you guys soon.
Never a worry to me at all......:-
P.S. Thanks to so many of you who sent their positive thoughts, I really appreciated it!
