So my update kicked off this morning before leaving for work.. so looking forward to playing a bit and checking under the hood.... any tips / tricks / gripes / praise?

Liking it so far. Pornhub and Pokerforum still work, so 10/10 in my books.

For anyone that hasn't received the notification yet (they are releasing it in waves over the next few weeks) - you can force it easily. Just google "force windows 10 update"

Also if Windows Update is giving you hassles, (one of my boxes would not let me without crashing out) you can download the windows 10 Media creation tool from Microsoft Web site and use it to burn a copy to disc.

By the Microsoft "letter of the law" you are supposed to upgrade Win 7 or 8 via the normal windows update, then create media afterwards if you want to be able to do a clean install. You are not supposed to be able to use media downloaded from Microsoft on more than one machine. Issue you is, if you do a clean install you will not have a Win 10 product key to input. We'll see..
You also only have 1 year to be able you get your free Win 10 upgrade, after that you will have to buy it.

This upgrade will take you to the "like" version of windows, ie Win7 or 8 home will take you to Win10 Home and Win7 or 8 Pro will take you to Win 10 pro.

Might be a good idea to read this guide prior to upgrading.. It covers most of the things I have experienced so far..

Easy answer.... It depends..

My personal experience (and those of several of my compatriots).. It's a good one... If you are running Windows 8 or 8.1 currently then definitely upgrade asap. Windows 7, well then read the link above..

Remember if you want to upgrade for free you have to do it before the offer expires on July 28, 2016

FYI, 14 millions downloads day 1...

Also I plan on upgrading my Windows 8.1 laptop today so will update on how that went. I have some pretty sophisticated data recovery software on it and some other equally unique software packages so will be interesting.

This will be my 2nd update since release although I have been running pre-releases on other systems for months.

If you have any "techie" questions, feel free...

Well does anyone know anything about oscommerce? More on topic updating to windows 10 does anyone think it will screw up like hold em manager or other programs?

Isn't osCommerce just an online shopping interface in your web browser? If so, no reason it shouldn't work as it's web based.

Now poker programs, ie holdem manager, etc, I haven't tried. Stars and Tilt worked fine even in the beta...

Nope, too much typing... Easy to google... Short answer, if you don't know why then likely not for you just yet.. But do it by July next year.

"working on it" right now.

Currently operating in "safe mode". Started the upgrade process from my laptop (W7). After some time, all that I get is a black screen with the arrow cursor. NOTHING else.

Ctl-Alt-Del allows me to reboot, but after entering password the screen goes back to black.

Thoughts?

Just noticed that I am apparently using Win10 Internet Explorer in this mode. What the hell is going on?

No idea, from your description at least. Did you read the instructions? What the heck is Win 10 Internet Explorer? Edge is the default web browser for Win10 but IE works fine on it.

Yes, I followed instructions . . . clicked the buttons I was supposed to. Left for work while it was still going through the process.

Came home to this black screen thingy.

Hard to know without seeing what steps it went through getting to the black screen. I know it reboots several times during the process. I won't be able to call you before at least 9:30-10 tonight.
You did back up first right? And you have a way back to the prior O/S as well?

I'm gonna suggest that those of you who are not reasonably "techie" hold off on doing this upgrade for the moment until we have a little more history. Definitely some issues with some touch screens and tablets. If you do decide to go ahead make sure you have an easy way back just in case.

Comp, prior to venturing into this, what would you recommend backing up? I'm thinking important documents (obv), drivers... What else? It's been a long time since I've gotten into this.

Have a way back to your previous O/S, I assume windows 7? Create recovery DVD's..
