You will need
A decent TV- 40" LED HDTV's are now around $500. HDMI ports are the new Red-White-Yellow plugs. Get lots of those if you can.
A decent internet - check TekSavvy in your area, they have good speeds (I just changed last week) for solid prices / download caps. Mine is 35 Mb/s - which usually registers as 45 - and 300 gigs a month that I have never topped, and I use more internet than you for $50.
Sony interne t player - and the "1channel" app, which I think is like $5 one time. Easy interface, very user friendly, and new content on that 1channel app is available within 1/2 hour of it airing on tv. That means you can stream The Walking dead by like 9:30 if it ends at 9:00. This is an android device so it has other nifty perks on it too to download.
Perks that aren't necessity;
Any sports packages you want. I get the GameCentre package $100 for the season, and the deal is you get all, non-local games in HD (more on that in a second). I'm assuming the other big sports have these similar packages.
Netflix ($8 / month) and Unblock-us ($7 / month). The latter allows for your internet access to be seen as an American user - meaning none of those "This video is not available in your country", and you get USA Netflix, and possibly the best? Because my internet is from the states that NHL package I mentioned there is NO local games (they must pick like, Hawaii or something), and I get all the games.
