EPT8 Monaco: Dressing for the occasion - PokerStarsBlog.com
Getting kinda tired of hearing people bitch about what players are wearing while the industry suits continue to to throw out excuses.
A suit or being well dressed does not make someone smart or professional.
A Professional is somebody "engaged or qualified in a profession"
It isnt players in sandals and shorts throwing pokers image in outhouse, I'll say that.

I look at Olivier Busquet always wearing that stupid vest and attire and lol but then i quickly realize that he has the sickest flow out of all poker players, so I cant hate on the guy too much
I like guys that dress mega casually it shows that you dont have to be dressed to the 9's to be a professional in anything
look at that hair.
god damn.

Casino Monaco has a dress code that is STRICTLY enforced. No reason to change that just for some poker players . . . if you do not like it, do not play the event.

People will wear whatever the location will allow. Look at golf courses that don't have a dress code. Pretty scarier looking attire.
The Casinos should have a dress code and enforce it.

Sounds like they are cutting some slack by the blog.
Sexton ranted about it recently, others before him. Player puts up his money to play, if he makes a tv table and doesn't run out to buy a suit since he has been hopping planes and grinding for a month straight, or quite frankly doesn't give a shit, just collect your vig and STFU is my point. Or supply a wardrobe and someone to fit it.
Milo
See, I come at it from the opposite angle. You are paying to play, certainly, but you still need to be aware of the House Rules, even if it is just relating to a dress code. And yes, it does sound like they have relaxed, as my understanding was that Casino Monaco was "black tie" for gentleman. Maybe that is only in the Salon Privee, though.

My problem is not Specifically with this blog or Monaco rules are rules It just set me off because there are tourneys without a dress code, but then they bitch about the kid on hoodie
BlondeFish
+1. I remember having to wear a suit and tie to play in the Monte Carlo Casino.

Poker Pros – Wake Up and Smell the Coffee!
"I understand wanting to be comfortable while you’re playing, etc. Is it too much, however, to expect players to wear collared shirts, long pants, and shoes and socks on a
televised final table?"
jontm
Ya, I mean poker has only been big for ten years. It's the flip flops major corporations don't like. Nothing to do with companies operating off shore in tax havens.
I don't to look at feet when I am watching poker on tv. And I couldn't tell you what color each players shirt was, let alone if it had a collar.
It's too bad that player flaked and cost WPT money. I wonder what they had planned on paying him for the appearance?
Lederer, Pollack and Duke dressed for success, those damn flip flops are the true reason poker has such a degen image.
For the record, I would dress up for a Tv table, but because I wanted too. I just think that they are a bit pompous with this. Hellmuths massive UB jersey didn't exactly scream class to me but how many years did that go on?
Was it bad for pokers image?
Milo
Casino Monaco would be concerned about their image . . .

I dont understand why ppl (mike sexton) are getting so fed up and give a shit about poker player's attire, its amazing.

I see what you did there costanza. It was like that little clue about eating subway.
Why do we keep bringing up Monaco lol, I get it. James Bond plays There
I would dress up for the record, btw, because I might feel more uncomfortable being underdressed. If I play in your kitchen though, going to need a bit a notice if sweats don't work; I plan to stay awhile as tourneys take time.

But did you eat and pay for the tuna sandwich after you busted? ;p
JimmyHo
A shower should be manditory for any player at the tables over a 24 hour period.
blackmagicz
I truly will not step foot in a casino or card game for that matter in anything but comfy attire. I love wearing sweats and a hoodie and flip flops to play in.
I find if you are going to be at the table for 5hrs+ why are you going to wear clothing that is going to be uncomfortable in.
Now if it is a casino rule to dress a certain way then I will follow status quo, but in no way do I judge someone on the way they dress at a casino but the way they blow money.
I know guys who dress like bums who will dump 25dimes (25k) at a blackjack table like it was pocket change who dress like they just came from a soccer game outside.
Cerberus
If it's the casino rule, then yes, suck it up buttercup. Places have dress codes.
If it's the tourney itself saying it, I also say suck it up. It's their tourney, their rules. If you don't like it, make your own or play in a different one.
Milo
I don't do it often, but I love being dressed to the nines . . . First time I wear a new suit, it's like spring time with new trainers when you were a kid. The first time I tried on my tux? Bond . . . James Bond.

My point is, Monte Carlo excluded, the event does not have a dress code as some of the big names wouldn't be told what they can or cant do...but as soon as an unknown shows up in a hoodie, he is chastised.
ReefAquarium
Wearing a suit can be very comfortable.
Buy a good one.
No... scratch that. Buy a fabulous one.
Every guy should own a really good suit.
If you are not comfortable in a suit ... you need a suit that fits you.
Find a really good mens store.
Who are they going to give a multi-year multi-million contract to if two guys have equal talent.
Guy in sweats, or guy who looks good on TV.

I agree that is bullshit but isnt that how life goes the known can do what they want while the unknown must follow some sort of convention.
I always use to dress in sweats when playing live poker especially when I was in my early 20s cause of the image it showed before all the internet pros starting making it big I may now dress up more since the whole internet look now looks stronger then a young business man trying to throw away money. Obv this doest apply in the high stakes where 95% of the players are known anyway.
