are we sure gun control is the answer at all?
To lay out my position I don't think that guns should be banned however if your weapon is not used to hunt what you eat, it should be highly regulated. fully automatic and assault weapons have no place in the hands of someone not in a national uniform. Guns in the hands of civilians that do not have the training or ability to kill people (which is tougher than killing a deer I would think) can only lead to more heartbreak. but, guns aren't the root cause.
Rather than look at the tools in the hands of the perps or the ways to rehab or punish them, we should be looking at how to reduce the number of people that get into the headspace to use them.
in the case of the Aurora dude.....he was a very smart guy who seemed to have a bright future, not sure what to do there.......limiting access to a bajillion guns and rounds of ammo might help though this dude was looking for multiple ways to make casualties.
In scarborough though there is more that could have been done in the past. It is well documented that when you decrease spending on community activities and social programs that crime will increase. The decline for Ontario started in the 90's with the uncommon stupidity revolution and while slightly mitigated has not been addressed nearly enough with our more recent crop of provincial seat warmers. Add to that a series of absolutely useless Toronto mayors and we have a major problem that is being exacerbated by the day with the current mindless twat. (in case I wasn't clear, I think Rob Ford is an absolute disgrace to an office that wasn't in high regard to begin with. total lowlife)
This article states more clearly what I mean than I can possibly relate.

edit, and I'm glad everyone is talking in full sentences and not just in one line toss offs like "you're a pinko if you don't like guns" or "you're a right wing-nut fascist because you like guns."
