Why do I keep getting dragged in by lunacy.
Milo, your last post it ridiculous, and uninformed. Instead of empirical evidence, you talk about your own personal experiences. Kudos and what not, but you're one guy, and I'm talking statistics.
You say you'd like greater / harsher / more strict deterrent based punishments for gun related crimes. Deterrent based approaches don't work... they ARE NOT EFFECTIVE. It's like rubbing tea leaves on your forehead in hopes of curing a brain tumor... looks like it might do something, but you end up just looking foolish.
As for your claim about native reserves, I'd like to see your studies and statistics on this. My own bit of research shows concern over only one reserve mentioned by the RCMP as concerning (
Link here), and as for number of border spanning reserves, the closest I could come up with was
THIS ARTICLE which claims total number of border reserves on US borders (Canada & Mexico) are 40. Assuming even 30 of these are in Canada/US, it seems difficult to believe that they couldn't be ID'd and patrolled more strenuously.
I'm with HM and GTA on this one. Guns, and every argument yourself and SuperNed have provided for them, are a bad idea. There is NO argument that has outweighed the amount of tragedy that could be avoided if people realized they just don't need them.
I would still be happy if gun fans would just admit they think we should have them because it makes them feel powerful, masculine, and are exciting to them. At least starting at an honest self-assessment would be a start.
