Lol, it is crazy, but these cards are 100% plastic, whereas Bicycles are only plastic coated. These cards dont tear, get creases easily, bow and you can wash them. In others words, one deck will last for years. What do you get from Bicycles, one or two tournaments? homepokertourney.com has reviews of these high end cards, if you're interested.
  • Hey Allout
I can see your point. It’s hard to justify spending $25 on 2 decks of cards. However these cards are well worth the $25. If fact they are well worth $40 which is how much they would cost if you where to buy them in a specialty store. Gemaco 100% plastic cards are most commonly used in Casino poker rooms. They are durable and are rated to last up to 100 timers longer then Bicycle cards or any other plastic coated cards. There are many stories of people who have owned 100% plastic cards for 25 to 40 years and still use them. My site has a section dedicated to customer review. Many of my customer have posted review on Gemaco, Kem and Copag cards. Check it out if you like. http://www.straightpokersupplies.com/reviews.php?osCsid=da7751fac8bcc64daf5fc9735034c3b1
  • Well thats interesting. Does anyone else out there think its worth it to pay 25 bucks for 2 decks of cards?
I play online so I would never have the need for a 25 buck deck. Also if i do buy a set will you give my a 40 year warranty lol
  • they are absolutely worth it....but I whored for mine ;)

LOL, you obviously have never used real cards....... Bicycle's are just toys....
  • I picked up the "better plastic-coated" casino cards for $4, and thought they were so much better than the regular/cheap cards, that I thought everyone was right about "nicer cards". Than I actually tried some Kem's, and now I'm spoiled, and can barely shuffle paper anymore :) There is a big difference between paper, good paper, and plastic. They're definitely worth it, and you get what you pay for.

As far as which is best, I think it's mostly personal preference, since I notice only minor differences between the main $20+ card brands (Kem, Copag, Gemaco, DelNagro). Just check the reviews at http://www.homepokertourney.com, and try out as many as you can (prior to buying if possible :) ) to see what your own favorite is.

God yes! I run a good number of tournaments at my home and started off by using plan old Bicycle cards (and worse sometimes) I had one tournamnet, where it was a little warm, that we had to change decks before the tournament ended. They were sticky and permanently bent. If a regular set of cards would last for two tournamnets, I'd consider myself lucky.

As much as I didn't want to, I switched to KEMs, grudgingly paid the crazy amount of cash for cards and now, over one year and 20+ tournaments later, I should start think about getting some new cards. The fact that they're long lasting it one big benefit, but the other is the fact that they retain their flat shape no matter how you bend them.

If you don't run a lot of games, then it's questionable whether you need good cards or not. For me, I won't ever go back to regular cards.
  • I use to just buy the plastic coated paper and scoffed at the idea of paying so much for the plactic cards, but about 5 months ago i bought a set of Royal's, which are very cheap plactic cards. Even with these cheap plastic cards i noticed a big difference and decided that paper cards would never be used in a game i was in again. Shortly after I received aset of Prestige Pro's from Witchdoctor and realized that even though the royals were an upgrade form plastic I still had a way to go. We have been using one of the prestige decks every week for 3 months and the 1st deck is still as in good as shape as the one we have never used. Since then i have purchased Copag's and now am seriously considering buying these Gemaco's.......let me say no that my name is bigbad and I'm a plastic card-aholic.
  • This just begs the question...If a plastic deck can last 40 years, WTF do you need 6 decks of plastic cards for? Plastiholic for sure.

5 tables and a cash game...
  • This I can accept! lol.
  • Well there you go AllOut
I’m not the only one who thinks its well worth it to pay 20-50 bucks for a good set of cards. Before I stated my online store, Straight Poker Supplies. I was looking for a Canadian retailer who sold Kem cards or even Copag cards. Back then I was forced to buy them from a US online retailer and thought I was getting a deal paying 19.99 US plus shipping. By the time I paid for my cards, shipping, exchange and the very nice post man with a customs invoice, those cards ended up costing me over $38. I started sell Copag and Gemaco cards on my site for that reason. Canadians always seam to get a raw deal when it comes to availability of cool products. So trust in me when I say Gemaco 100% plastic cards for $25 with free shipping in Canada is a great deal.
    Cheers
  • pokerpimp... here's an idea that no other poker site out there offers.

Offer card sample packs, similar to chip sample packs... give a few cards of each kind in a sample pack, someone's bound to love one of the kinds of cards, and you'll probably make a sale.

I have 2 sets of COPAGs now, but after reading some reviews on Dal Negros, Gemacos and Kems, I'm very curious to try them... but of course, there's no way I'm shelling out to buy a set of each in order to test them.

Nobody else out there has this, so you'd be the first.
  • Good idea, Doc!
    :D
