Fallsview Report

There is some non-poker related content. You are warned.

I was in Niagara Falls with my family this past week. Originally we were staying for two days but I decided to spend a little money and booked a night at the Fallsview Casino,

The first two nights were at the Travelodge on Lundy’s Lane. At $99.50 a night I didn’t expect much and didn’t get it. My back was very sore after sleeping in their Queen size bed. My wife experienced the same problem.

Warning! Marineland is a rip off. It cost us $115 to enter and that was with my youngest son who was free. Inside there were only a few things to see. The whales were nice but if you wanted to get close to them you had to pay $9 a person to feed them. Insane. The dolphins were okay but after that there was no other Marine life forms to look at. The sharks, seals and the rest are non-existent. Basically the place sucks. Everyone DOES NOT love Marineland.

The next day we did Maid of the Mist. For $30 for the four of us it was far better than Marineland and the highlight of our trip. Since it was almost 44 degrees with the humidex it was great to get wet.

Other points - Planet Hollywood is expensive and you don’t get free refills on pop.
The Rainforest Café on Clifton Hill is great for the family. Pricey but worth it.
The Swiss Chalet wasn’t any different. It always rocks. Our server didn’t need a name tag since she had “Mary Jane” tattooed on her arm. Really big sailor faded type ink. She was really good.

Now on to Fallsview. I booked two days in advanced and got a falls view room on the 19th floor with two Queen beds for $229/night. I think it was a really good deal since I checked the internet and it was priced at $399 or $499. The room itself was great. The view wasn’t of the Horseshoe falls (Canadian side) but you did see the American falls and the river. It was great. The beds were superb. I highly recommend staying there.

Once the kids were in bed I called down to get a spot on the 5-5 No Limit tables. Since I was a guest I was moved to the top of the line. After an hour or so I got a table. I bought in for $200 (Min $100 Max $500) and that was a mistake. I really needed more.

I waited for the blind to come to me before playing. I paid my $6 session fee and began. In the BB I am dealt 10 - 3 off. 5 Limpers. I check. Flop comes 10x- Ks-4S. SB checks, I bet out $15. All fold except the button. He calls. Hmm. Flush draw? Turn comes a 3. I begin to bet and he folds immediately. I never even finished counting.
Yay! First hand and I am up.

Well, I wasn’t there for long.

The next hour I was dealt crap. I mean crap. 5-3, 8-3, K-2. But I watched. I was excited. The table were all fishes. There were pots of $500+ with people betting on mid pair and bottom pair. Lots of people calling $50 - $100 bets on draws and missing. One guy takes a $600 pot with J-4off and only the paired 4 on a flop of K 4 Q 3 7. Bizzare. I am thinking this whole time that I am going to hit and hit big. The next 45 minutes brought me one good hand of K Q clubs. I didn’t hit the flop at all and lost $40.
A - 10 in the BB brought nothing. Down another $30.
Now I turned really stupid. I saw so many hand winning big pots with crap hands (5 10 suited UTG?!!?) that I went on tilt. I played K2 suited, lost more. Q6, lost more. I eventually went out on an all in bet of $25 with A Joff. 5 callers! Flop comes Q6Q, checked to one guy. He bets $250. All fold. He turns over 44. I figure I have a chance. Turn a brick, river a 4. I am out and done.

So, I lost my patience and lost my money. I deserved it. If I stayed calm and patient I could have cleaned up. A $200 lesson. I plan to go back and keep patient. I saw a lot of money change hands and I was only a giver. It was dumb. I am better than that.
So to close. I highly recommend going to Fallsview 5-5 No limit. Play right and you’ll score big. Just don’t be me and be dumb and impatient.

  • Look up Days Inn North of the Falls on the internet. $120 - for 2 nights, 2 hot breakfasts, $50 gift cert to a steakhouse. Fireplace in every room, hot tub, sauna and pool. 2 min from old casino/rainbow bridge to Seneca Casino. On checkout you get a $10 coupon off your next stay.
  • Also, just up Lundy's Lane is Holiday Inn Express. I think they were $99 per night (maybe even less) when I went there last year. Rooms are reasonable, beds are comfy, pool is clean.

And if you go with with the boys, there is the Worlds best Gentleman's club just a 10 minute walk up the street. :D

The Sundowner, 250 gorgeous women and 2 ugly ones. Even the shooter girls are HOT HOT HOT.

I don't think my wife would approve of me taking my boys to this place. Oh, wait. You mean my friends, right?
  • It's not $120 per night - it's $120 for TWO nights.
  • I always (well the 2 times I've played 5/5 at Fallsview) buyin for 500.  I will do so again next time.
  • Hey Moose,

I tried looking for that deal you had mentioned at the Days Inn on the Net and couldn't really find anything. Can you send me a link??

    Thanks

That sounds like an awesome deal for TWO nights ...
How are the beds and room etc?
  • It's an older hotel. The rooms, beds are ok, the bathrooms need remodeling and so do the hallways but I go to gamble, come back, soak in the hot tub and go out and gamble some more. I don't sit in the room and admire the pictures on the wall. The restaurants where the meals are, are good quality. Free hot breakfast is two eggs, hash browns, toast, juice and coffee. You save because it is a 2 min drive to rainbow bridge/casino niagara, as opposed to walking across the street. Big deal. Price is higher on weekends - this is for Sun-Thur.

I've stayed before at the Hampton Inn which is right across the street from Niagara but in the summer they really jack the rates up, the pool is in the atrium where all the inside guests can stare down at you from their rooms and the free breakfast is horrible.

google: days inn north of the falls :fish:
  • Sorry, last time I stayed was last week of June. They have gone to summer rates now, $249 for the package. :'( $229 if you go tonight! :D
