.com vs .net?

I've seen two versions of commercials for both Party Poker and Poker Stars...one ".com" version and one ".net" version. Any idea why they bother advertising both domains? Seems like a waste of money to me, but there must be a good reason.

  • I have a guess.

PokerStars.net offers play money games only. This (apparently) allows PokerStars to advertise the .net website in countries which do not allow advertising of internet gambling sites.

  • Now that you mention it, I think you're right. I've seen the .net PS commercial advertise free games, so that makes sense.

    Thanks,

that is 100% correct. One the countries included is Canada as a matter of fact. It is illegal to advertise online gaming sites, but it is of course legal to advertise sites that link to the content.
