What would you have done different with this?

I promise I won't post many of these.

I probably should have check-raised on the river but I chickened out thinking he may have AA. There was a possibility of a straight but I thought it to be low especially since the way the cards came up. Plus this guy usually plays right to the river.

Any suggestions.

  • I promise I won't post many of these.

Why not? Hands for analysis are a *great* thing to post. This plays in this particular hand might not be too "advanced", but there's nothing wrong with that.

I probably would have played the hand exactly the same way you did. In some circumstances, I would re-raise on the turn, but I still think that just calling the turn raise is going to be better most of the time.

I think the check & call on the river is fine. A check-raise here is going a little too far after your opponent showed quite a bit of strength on the turn. Your hand is simply not strong enough to go for a river check-raise.

I think the most interesting thing about the hand is actually the play of super_brat. He makes an incorrect play at *every* single decision point he has, and most of the plays are *clearly* incorrrect.

  • I felt that as well. From what I remember he came into the game with about $90 and often raised before the flop in EP only to fold. He may have had the hands a few times to be able to raise but not the amount he did and his bluff was often called.
  • thinking he may have AA.

How do you put him on AA when he doesn't re-raise pre-flop? While he still may very well have a hand that beats AK based on him raising the turn, why put him an AA specifically?

I've seen the occasional player who will never raise pre-flop with AA. Pardon me, I've seen the occasional fish who will never raise pre-flop with AA. However, this is the exception rather than the rule.
often raised before the flop in EP only to fold.

There's nothing highly irregular about this. For example, I'll do this every time I have AK and the flop comes down J63. (i.e. "Fold the rest")
