KWSOP Bristol Street Satellite #1 - RESULTS!!

When all was said and done, re-buy mania produced THREE entires into the KWSOP and a 4th place cash prize of....

TEN OF DOLLAR!

Play was loose, fast and aggressive in the opening four levels. Twenty-four players started the event and two on the waiting list joined in once re-buys were declined. In all 26 entries were combined with 23 rebuys to produce an impressive prize pool.

Once the re-buys ended, play gradually because more and more tight, keeping more players than average around for higher and higher blind levels.

When the final table formed, sitting at it were a lot of common faces to the Bristol Street Nightclub and Casino

FINAL TABLE

Seat 1: "ItsaMe" Mario (4,100)
Seat 2: "Lamb of" John A. (12,300)
Seat 3: SirWatts" Mike (9,000)
Seat 4: "carmaker" Geoff C. (6,200)
Seat 5: Steve (3,700)
Seat 6: "8 Ball" Tye Z. (4,900)
Seat 7: "Zithal" Rob L. (5,200)
Seat 8: Kevin F. (3,700)

8th Place : "ItasMe" Mario

The final table started with Mario swinging and the blinds at 300-600. The first two hands in, Mario raised and captured both blinds increasing his chip stack by 1,800 chips. The tight play produced a high number of players with high blinds, so a blind steal was a significant event.

In the 4th or 5th hand in, Tye raised to 1,800 UTG with K9h and was called by Mario, holding ATo. The flop came 78T giving Mario TPTK, but also giving Tye the double-ended straight draw. Tye bet another 1,800 into the pot, Mario raised all-in and Tye called. Mario had Tye covered, but just by 1,000 chips.

A six on the river sealed Mario's fate, leaving him with just over a big blind and making Tye the second largest stack at the table with a five figure chip count. He hung around until the BB came to him, went all-in blind and was eliminated by John in 8th place. Another final table appearance by Mario adds to an impressive streak at the BSC.

7th Place: "carmaker" Geoff C.

At one point, around the breaking of the first table, Geoff had a nearly mammoth stack and looked on an unstoppable rampage to the final table. Laying down several strong check-reraises ate into his stack and he eventually found himself one of the shortest stacks on the table.

I had completely forgot to write down details of the hand, but suffice it to say that he pushed with a small stack, was called and outsted in 7th place. (Note: If Geoff posts details of his elimination, I'll edit and put the comments here)

6th Place / 5th Place : Steve / "SirWatts" Mike (bubble-boys)

The hand before this double elimination, Steve called a big blind of 800 chips with K8, leaving him with only 1,700 hundred chips. The admitted mistake of not pushing allowed John on the Big Blind into the hand with 72c. The flop came with a 7, John pushed and Steve folded as the blinds increased to 600-1,200, putting Steve in the Big Blind, committing him to whatever two cards he was going to get dealt.

In that hand, it was folded around to John who double the bet to 2,400 with T5h. Although Mike still had chips remaining, he realized that he was in a dangerous 4th chip position and would have to make a move in order to get past the chip count of Rob, currently in third. He decided that this would be the time and moved all-in with A8o

Steve was forced to call with 86o, and John also called, hoping to get the double elimination. When the cards were revealed, Mike sat in the best postion with his A-high hand, but was quickly crushed when a Ten came on the flop AND the turn, giving John trips ten, eliminating two player putting everyone else in the money.

(I thought about Mike's play, because he looked to be questioning it, but I think he made the right decision; he needed to make a move to get a seat, and knew that Steve was committed to the pot. John would make a raise with anything in his position, so his all-in, even if he lost to Steve, could return him to roughly the chips he had if he beat John.)

It was good to see "SirWatts" back at the BSC, and he played an excellent game.

4th Place : Kevin F. ($10)

The very next hand, Kevin pushed in his last 2,500 UTG+1 with A8o and was called by Tye in the BB with Q6o. Kevin was out in front when the flop came Ace high. A six of clubs on the turn suddenly procuded an number of outs for Tye; (any 6, any Q or any club to match the Qc in his hand.) A club came off on the river, giving Tye the Q-high flush, eliminating Kevin in 4th place and finalizing the winners of KWSOP seats as "Lamb of" John (who ended at this point with 30,000+ chips in his stack), "8 Ball" Tye Z. and "Zithal" Rob L.

Congrats to our winners, and we'll see you in the KWSOP in late June!!!

  • Thanks (again!) Rob for a great night of poker. I was seated at Table #1, and I must say, I've never had so much fun at a Bristol Street game. Well, at least without alcohol!! What a great bunch of guys we had. Some new, some old,and the chemistry was just great.
Wolfhound, I think you might be the funniest guy in pants!!

Rob, I still can't believe you flopped a that flush to knock me out!!! :'(
It's cool, at least I didn't get Rivered.

Congrats to Rob, Tye, and John on your birth into the KW-SOP!!!

  • The hand Johnie refers to took place close to formation of the final table with blinds at 200-400. It's folded to me in the small blind and I have K8d. I look over to Johnnie who's playing with his last three black chips. The cost is cheap, I have a K high and so I force him into the pot and he turnd over KJo.. Argh....

The flop then comes with three diamonds and that was it. Sorry about the beat. My two most memorable hands were as follows...

    1) First level and the rule is that you can re-buy with 250 or less in chips. A number of callers, including myself, to Kevin in the BB, who I noticed had seperated his stack into two piles. His puts one of them in raising roughly 200. It folded to me and I take another look at Kevin's remaining stack and it's *exactly* at 250. I think I had something like KQh, and push (hoping the SB doesn't call, which he doesn't and Kevin folds and rebuys.

    2) This one is definately my most questionable calll and I felt bad that I put a player out with this call... I think I made the wrong desicion, but I am looking for comments.

At the 300-600 level, Ercules is sitting to my right and for the past two times I've been in the BB, action has folded around to Ercules who pushes all in and I fold. The third time this happens, it's folded around to Ercules who once again pushes. His stack was low at this point, so the raise was for 1,500 above the blinds. So, it's on me to call 1,500 into a pot of 2,700 which gives me almost 2-1 odds. Thinking that if's he's raised with a non-pair and my cards are live, I'm getting the right odds to call.... EXCEPT... this is tournament poker and a call will leave me with two BB's if I lose. The problem is, is that I'm only left with 4 BB's if I fold. I think for awhie and I just can't get it out of my head that this is an automatic fold.

After a good length of time, I convince myself that it's worth the gamble, call and Ercules turns over K2, I hit a 7 on the turn to eliminate him.

Thoughts? Was it a obvious fold? I do feel bad on knocking a player out on a weak call by myself.

Congrats again Rob on running a great show.  Congrats to John Adams, Tye and yourself on winning your seats.

It was a great night of poker.  My cards sucked, as probably did the way I played the ones that I got.  JohnnieH was right, we did have a great table.  My only complaint was, everytime I was going to make a play with my 92o, JohnnieH, Geoff "carmaker" or Tye would beat me into the pot...
I probably owe Rob a swath of leather for the area I wore out mucking my hole cards all night at Table 1.

I assume that JohnnieH has approached the executive of the KWSOP with respect to his suggestion on how exits from the Friday night of play should go...

    Thanks again Rob.

Whoever hasn't made it to Bristol/Park St/WPC...get to some of these events, the organizers/play make it worth the drive.

I agree, first class organizers and first class players. I have only made it to one event so far, but planning to go to many others, especially since I just found out WPC is just up the street from my house!

  • Thanks for all the kind words guys, I know Tyson and Rob appreciate hearing that people have had a good time at their respective homes.

Johnny A...here is one thing I have learned. When you win, it is always fun! Pehaps that is why you rarely have fun playing with me...hehehehe. Congrats to Tye, Rob and Johnny!

Well, considering it knocked me out I would say it was a horrible call :)

Seriously though, I would have made the call as well, it was a completley gambling but I think the right move. We were both short stacked with the final table looming, it was the right time to gamble in my opinion. Especially seeing the stacks that were going to the final table.

Anyway, I had a great time thanks for hosting.
