Playground Poker Club Scam

I recently visited the playground poker club near montreal after all the hype about it since it opened in 2010.

My experience left me pondering why it has been around this long to say the least.

I played at the cash tables for about 6 hours and while i was at the cashier/cage to collect my money i was approached by their supervisor. My chips were already pushed towads the person at the cashier at this time. I was told that they would give me my buy in back and i was to leave. I had bought in for 500 at the 2/5NLH and had taken around 2800 up to the cage.

I will never go back or recommend this corrupt illegal gaming establishment. This is a warning of what these small card rooms on aboriginal reservations are all about. Stay with the brick and mortar legal gaming establishments.

I was unimpressed from the time i walked in to when i left. This place looks like a criminal underground with dark gloomy room little or basically no security for the players.

  • You are going to have to provide a lot more detail to convince us here, many of us have played there numerous times both cash and tournaments and our general opinion is much different than yours. There had to be a reason.
  • ^^ ya this.

Aside from absurdly high rake (cash games only btw) the place is incredible. Where else in Canada puts on so many poker series throughout the year with buyins for all levels.

To me it sounds like you were allegedly cheating/ angle shooting or something thereabouts for them to hold back $2300. Where is Mike Boyle to chime in here.

But for the record myself, and probably mostly anyone else here is going to side with playground unless we could be proved otherwise.

  • Guess the obvious question is if they really had a problem with you why would they wait 6 hrs to 'escort' you out?
Don't know you, but did you happen to break any of their 'substance' rules?

There's hundreds of people through there and thousands of dollars exchanged every day.

    Why'd they single you out??
  • What did you do wrong? Playground has the best customer service of the many poker rooms I have been to in the world. This is your only post here, but if you are truly innocent, why didn't you complain to the police onsite or the gaming commission?

  • I......little or basically no security for the players.

There is more security at Playground than any other casino I've been to in Ontario. I feel very safe when I'm there. My experience at PG has been top notch service from everyone that works there including, wait staff, the dealers, the floor, and even the dudes that clean the washrooms.

Sorry, but I call bullshit....there is something you are not devulging here.

  • Sounds like bullshit to me. I've only been there once but I've never had any problems receiving funds, security and staff was great btw.

This thread is actually making want to check out PG. How to the rakes compare to fallsview / niagara? Are there lineups here?

Believe 1/2 rake is 10%, up to $8. Table wait is 1000 times better - they'll open more tables with demand.
Longest wait I've had, even when WPT event going on is ~ 20mins.

When I go, I budget gas to get there, AirB&B costs, poker + tips. No need to budget food or drink - all food is free when playing cash, and drinks are free all the time.

Probably not BF +EV approved, lol, but I consider free bfast, lunch and dinner worth the rake to sit in a for a half hour and eat before I move over to the tourney I'm there for :)

Also, to OP - if you don't consider the numerous guys in suits that are +6'5" and +250lbs good security, not sure what you need!
  • Awesome thanks for the info. I'd probably only go if i was already on my way to QB. Otherwise yeah it would be a -EV trip for sure!
  • PocketsTwos, Loose Goose and I play the cash games whenever we're not playing in a tournament. I think they're checking into our Airbnb house on February 2, while I'll be driving with somebody on February 5.

  • I only went for about 3 days once last spring, this is by FAR the best card room for probably a 1000 K radius and that's not a joke, if you live in ON its totally worth the drive, about wait times and player demand for things, I was there playing 5/5 NL a hand full wanted to play 1/2/5 PLO they wouldn't open it until we stood up so instead a bunch of people just stood up myself included and it was open within 10 minutes. I am under the impression its made for the players and they rape you with the rake but that's because of the service provided, kinda everyone wins, players get what they want, and they make money off our backs!

As for you, sounds like you might have been part of collusion of some sort, just a guess why its withheld to check the tapes!
  • Kinda funny that's his only post and doesn't come back to defend anything. Ppl can be really weird.

  • He was hoping others would chime in and support him but he got shit on instead. Did you want him to go all FED on you?

  • If be ok with it. Liven things up a bit here. I got nothing to worry about.

  • lol complaining about live poker ripoffs is so 2017. Rewind 5 years ago and these guys would be complaining how online poker is rigged or how Stars wouldn't let them cash out without ID.
  • It was love at first sight for me and PG. During their festivals/main event series the place is incredible. Yes the rake is high but the perks are there and the games are soft. The tournaments are well run and the rake is reasonable. I've been to Vegas and other casinos in ON and personally I think PG is one of the best run poker rooms around - it's at the top of my list.

You'll find me there next week.... :)

  • I'd like to hear more details about what happened?

My understanding is that the rake is $15 for 2/5 and more for higher stakes?
Can anyone confirm the rake structure?
  • Pretty sure 2/5, 5/5 and higher is 5% up to $14 or $15 max with the BBJ drop, 1/2 is probably $7 or $8 max with the BBJ drop at 10% max.

Been a few months since I've been there and I haven't played bigger than 5/5 there so can't comment on anything bigger
