  • I noticed it is no longer called Pokerstars Montreal Festival. What happened?

:o Good eye. Is it because PokerStars' new owner, Amaya, has to walk a tightrope with the Quebec regulators and the government-owned competition? If somebody here confirms T8urmoney's observation that the Festival satellites (seat-only) have been pulled from PokerStars, then this could be the reason too.
  • Just saw this on 2+2

    @playgroundpoker

    Hey everyone:

    1. Due to unforeseen circumstances, PokerStars has withdrawn their branding from the event.

    2. The Festival will be held as scheduled with no changes.

    3. The Guarantees will remain in place for the Kickoff Event (Event 1) and the Main Event (Event 10).

    4. Online satellite winners will get their seats as usual.

    5. Live satellites will continue as normal and all published guarantees will remain for satellites.

    6. There is no change to the Mega Overlay being held this weekend.

    7. As far as we understand, PokerStars has stopped running satellites online for this event
  • Yeah - I wrote and posted that there. Was just coming to do it here as well.

That's all I can say about it.

Except to say that considering the timing it won't have a huge impact on what is certain to be a pretty great series. There were already around 100 satellite winners plus all of our live sat winners.
  • I think you can still buyin directly via Stars as well.

GL to this event Mikelbyl, looks like I won't be attending YUL until WPT (assuming I ship a satty).
  • Too bad you can't make it, it's a nice series. Smaller than the WPT/Playground Classics in terms of buy-ins etc. but still a ton of value there. Of course I would say that, but the similar series last fall surprised me a lot in a positive way.
  • They better keep direct buyins open cause a lot of online players were planning to do that
  • This is a question I have no answer to at the moment - I will seek clarification.

Actually this is a question that is best directed by a player him- or herself directly to PokerStars support.
  • I noticed earlier this week that there were no satellites too. Makes sense now I guess. I was planning to play a bunch of them this coming week.

Anyone planning to head down? I'm planning to drive down on Friday to register for days 1b and 1c of the 1k.
  • So if you're on the bubble about coming, keep in mind that there were already around 100 online sat seats awarded and about the same number of live sat seats awarded - with another 60-70 or more live seats yet to be awarded.

So between the guarantee and the potentially softer field brought in through satellites - almost a full Day 1's worth - I have no doubt that the Main Event is going to be awesome.
  • I know a bunch of people carpooling, but I would not recommend a total stranger who only made one post. That would be like sharing a bed with CindyXXX.

    Oh wait.

Hey gang - there was a request on 2+2 that people here may be able to help with:
  • Lol let's split a room with a complete stranger with 1 post.
  • OK OK jeez... lol. You guys have made your point....lol. that was me on 2+2 btw asking about room splitting. You make a fair point. so here's my FB. Heh heh, I was the one who posted to your thread suggesting you check over here.. Welcome..:)
  • thanks compuease
  • 665 total entries in the first 2 of 4 starting flights in Event 1, a $135 + $15 re-entry event on Friday, so it looks like attendance is pretty solid so far. This trends out to possibly over 1200 total entries, which will build a very nice prize pool indeed!
  • Hey gang - so it's looking pretty great here for the Montreal Festival so far - if you've been on the fence about coming down, it's time to jump down and get here.

Of course I *would* say that - I work here. So let the numbers speak for themselves...

    Event 1 - Multi-day $135 + $15, 1401 entries, $183,461 Prize pool, $32,100 up top.
    Event 2 - Shootout $100 + $10, 100 entries (capped), 9,700 prize pool, $1,420 up top.
    Event 3 - Daytime Deepstack Turbo $60 + $10, 106 entries, $6,169 prize pool, $1,569 up top.
    Event 4 - 6-Max $150 - $15, 201 entries, $29,245 prize pool, $6,795 first prize.
