TR: Forumers' night out at "Woodstock"!

Coles Notes: >= 6 forumers invaded Woodbine!

I was undecided between Fallsview, Woodbine and the rake-free home cash game. First I had to drop off a summer camp application for my kid - woo-hoo, more time for poker! >:D Unfortunately, the rake-free game did not get enough interest and I had been driving east, so I decided to continue to "Woodstock" as my wife calls it. Whenever I asthma wife if it's OK to go out, she shouts, "Are you going to donate money playing pokeher at Woodstock again?"

When I was near Woodstock, I realized that I did not have enough cash to properly play 2/5 or 5/5 since I had given away my cash to several people at Casino Rama on Monday, so I first had to find my bank ATM to withdraw my maximum daily limit. Unlike Fallsview when it took three hours to get a seat the last time I was there, :rage: it wasn't long after I went to the cashier and washroom that I was seated.

I recognized garryc from playing with the Chinguacousy Hill group years ago. I also said hi to samcanada & another forumer. I later heard somebody seated in the waiting area saying to somebody signing in, "The wait list is too long, you're too old to make it!" I can only think of one person that prehistoric - our beloved mod! The last couple of times compuease has gone there has been to follow soon after me so he must have invented a GPS :fish: Finder.

After losing my first buy-in, I heard the announcement of the next player for an open seat, "GTA Poker for 1/2, GTA Poker." I said to myself, "WTF, didn't he retire from poker??" I walked over to compuease's table to ask where this GTA clone is seated, then I can ask him if he has any furniture that needs moving so he can steak me.

The forumers were originally in four separate tables, but I noticed that they had all converged to GTA's table, probably using compuease's :fish: Finder. Rumour has it that this GTA can't even spell pokeher. After he beat villain's nut flush, he shouted, "BAM!" which woke me up. My luck also changed for the better, and asked the forumers if they wanted to go for a meal break. When GTA agreed to sit out, everybody in the table was mad at me! With his :fish: Finder useless for the moment, compuease joined us.

We checked out the "newly renovated" Willows Dining Room.

There was a $28 buffet available, but none of us were that hungry and I always have food waiting for me at home. Since GTA refused to steak me, I had to settle for ordering New York Sirloin Stake with "Natural Jus." I asked WTF is Natural Jus, and GTA replied that it was special juice that came from the chef. :-\

Anyway, I give the stake with the chef's Jus thumbs up! :-[ The bill came but I forgot to scam them with the Credit Card Roulette trick. We went back to the Poker Lounge, but there were 20 players on every waiting list with all 11 tables full. Another big difference vs. human dealt tables is that the players at Woodbine bust twice as fast. With a busto player leaving and muttering "This site is rigged!" :bs: every few minutes, it takes much faster than at Fallsview for 20 waiting players to get seated.

Like pokerJAH, I get paranoid walking around with a lot of cash in my wallet so I decided to leave enough money in the electronic account for a max buy-in. garryc left with a decent win too, so we walked together towards the parking lot as each other's security guard.

Hopefully, the other forumers there will reply with their Woodbine experience. When I got home, my wife was already by the door with her hand out. I handed her my wallet to show my winnings. She retorted, "But how much did you lose?" :rolleyes2:

  • Too bad I missed it. Maybe we should try to have a forum night at Woodstock? How did GTA make out? Might head over tonight. Classic report BF!
  • Very well done report! Love it. (how much did you lose!!!) LOL
  • Personally I didn't know that there was poker in Woodstock.
  • I was a pleasure seeing you guys there.. I like the way you write blondefish.. Your writing skills may even exceed your pokeher skills..;)

    Appreciate your generosity as well..

My trip was pretty uneventful, I had been going to go to the Cambridge Friday night tournament after a long absence but at the list minute I turned east on the 401 instead of west... Just testing the accuracy of my new fishfinder..

After about a 20 minute wait I get seated at the fish table as buddy says.. Garryc, samcanada, and pkrfce... What a nice fish pond! lol, just kidding guys! They weren't the fish though.. I sat with only $97. not what I usually do but it was what I had left on there after withdrawing my original deposit last time.
Sit in UTG and of course 9,3.. Jah would have raised to $50. or something but not me, I'm a poker player, fold.. 2nd hand BB 9,10 4-5 limpers, I check. Flop is Q,J,8.. I gotta look like 4 times, this doesn't happen to me.. Checked to lady ($135.) 3 to my left. She overbets the pot $20. (informed later that if she bets, she overbets). No kidding..Folded to me and I look again, man I gotta get these eyes fixed, I jam my $95.. She calls with no hesitation, I'm thinking split pot or maybe set, nope she has Q,6? ? ? Top pair shitty kicker, no reasonable draw against moi? Really? Turn 6, ut oh...

River blank (I had you wondering there didn't I?) and I double up.. I think I played maybe 20% of my hands all night which was only maybe 2 hours total but no others of significance. Up and down a little.. Left with my monster stack of bills ($200) and didn't worry about security.. ;) There definitely is a lot of fishy players there though to make real money you don't want to sit with several other forumers.. I will definitely go back..
  • Need to hear GTA's take on this . . .
  • You have inspired me to head directly to Woodstock and take on GTA once and for all!

Well, if you're in CA, then who do you think is using your sobriquet at Woodstock?

    It couldn't be . . . nnnaaaahhhhh . . .
  • Well I'm from the GTA and I'm one of the one per centers, that is forum members who play poker.

Buddy, thanks for buying the meal. That was very nice of you.

My night started off poorly. I turned the nut straight, got some fish to put 175 into the pot with 3rd set only to have him catch the fh on the river.

I was about to go reload my card when I looked down at JTs and went on a bit of a streak to get back to even with interest. Then Buddy invited us to go to the restaurant to chat poker and life. I hesitated since I had some momentum but it isn't often I get to chat with a poker legend so I couldn't miss that opportunity. The chicken strips were crisp and tasty while the dipping sauce was tangy. The oriental chicken noodle soup tasted rather domestic to me but who am I to question its origins?

Dinner took too long so I lost my spot at the table. Came back and chatted with Comp and Buddy for almost an hour while I waited for a seat. I almost have up but I'm glad I didn't. I hit a bunch of hands on the span of about an hour that left me with close to a 400 profit.

My highlight reel hand of the night was hitting a straight flush against the fish who had sucked out in me earlier with the fh and the woman wh o bets too much against Comp AND getting paid off by both. Hee haw!

  • I thought Woodbine is in Toronto?
  • What about the next Forumers' Night Out At "Woodstock" II this Saturday? There is a Brantford Deep Stack on Sunday so that is where I'll be.

Sounds good to me. You should easily be able to spot me with my new player id :) Although I will likely change it again this week. We can always hit the club down the road a little later for some live 1/2 (with real chips anyways). If the room happens to crash again.

I ordered mine well done so my meat was very dark. I'm still not sure about that chef's Natural Jus though....

If compuease, "GTA" and I can't fix the PokerTek computers (& add a few zeroes to our cash balances ;)), then that sounds like a good "Plan B." I just have to make sure not to wear the shirt that makes players ask me if I'm a cop! :wink2:
  • I wasn't there the 27th, but I was there the night before until 4 AM and on the 28th. Rough night Friday (bad play early, recovered, then a few beats late left me down a few hundo on 1-2).

Sunday was a rough day as well. After sitting around 150-200 for a few hours, I had aces on a straddle hand with a bigger stack holding kings and another smaller stack holding nines. All the money went in pre-flop and my aces held (RIGGED I TELL YA). Unfortunately, not even an hour later, my kings ran into aces and I lost about 350 (more than I made on that big hand before lol). Then my kings ran into 10s which hit on the flop. Luckily that time it was fairly obvious the other player had a set and I got away only losing about 60 on that hand.

Rough last two sessions at Woodbine, but I love the place and the people and will be back a few times this weekend again. Hope to meet a few forumers there!
  • those that dare to dream itt
  • Who knew about the $10,000 draws at Woodbine last Friday? Woodbine just had its one-year anniversary celebration, but I think it was the best-kept secret since the high executive salaries at Woodbine!

Woodbine neglected to publicize the winners (unlike other OLG winners), so I wonder if all the names drawn are aware that they have won.
  • The great news is that there is a plan to have several Main Event Packages to the PCA in The Bahamas by late 2014. pokerJAH, pkrfce9 & other forumers who play at Woodbine can have a Forumers' Night Out in The Bahamas!
