    Cliff Notes: (comments/questions)

Expand private sector gaming at existing and new casino sites

100% of the current 6,000 casino staff will soon be employed by private sector

OLG will increase support if gambling research and treatment

Private sector companies will be running under OLG" microscope"
Ughh...they did mention they want to start focusing on customer's needs..hopefully they will loosen the reins with some of the silly rules they have implemented in poker rooms

Two new casinos in Ontario, and one in GTA

OLG will bring "world class gaming centre" to the GTA

Stated project expected to be completed in 5-6 years but it may be possible to open up temporary casinos in the meantime.

No formal or informal discussions have taken place yet between the OLG and any municipalities. It is expected that interested municipalities will go through a bidding process and the govt/OLG will choose the business plan that they feel makes the most sense.

BTW Mohawk was discussed as a possible location during the press conference!

Online gaming to begin in 2013

One question regarding online gaming referred to the "very clear provisions of the federal criminal code against unregulated online gaming"

Is there a law that I am unaware of? If so, why didn't Party Poker pull out of Canada at the same time as they did from the US?

The response was that the OLG plans to ask province/federal govt to "take some sort of action" to "ban that sort of activity" (offshore gaming.)

What he said was, they don't want to see Ontario dollars leave the province, so they would ask the Federal government to make "very clear provisions" or making banking transactions (UEIGA anyone ?) with off shore gaming sites illegal.

It sounds like the province could not make that decision on its own.

Yes this is all part of what the Olg chair said in response to a question from a reporter. It was the question from the reporter that I meant to ask about.

It was a reporter from the globe (can’t remember name) and his question went something like this: “what about the current federal provisions, very clear provisions, that are currently being violated by offshore gaming, will you be speaking to the feds about this?”

I looked but can’t find this part of the press conference on video.

Instead I’ll post a few links if anyone’s interested:

If the provisions were clear, they would have already had sites shut down. The laws have not kept up with the times.
  • And if we have a govt change...all plans go bye bye? CNE grounds makes most sense as it sits dormant most of the year.
  • Funny thing is, instead of trying to fix the current spending structure of the govt, they create alternate means of taking money from the avg citizen. Having said that, I will be applying for poker room manager where I will run that shit like commerce.

But as already pointed out they will probably leave the poker room out....lol

Not a chance. All governments like revenue increases without the burden of "raising taxes".
  • Hopefully its not all limit poker like the Ex or you have to wait 3-4 hrs for a table re: fallsview.

Fallsview Casino and Casino Niagara don't have any limit poker.

nope, but ya gotta wait hours and hours to get a seat
  • Since when is Mohawk Raceway in the GTA?
  • I read an article about the online gaming. They focused on selling lottery tickets online. I'm guessing that would also include sports betting? Inclusion of online poker would be cool. Hopefully they don't make a crappy online poker room while pushing out well run online rooms.

Selling lottery tickets online is going to kill business for local mom and pop convenience stores. My parents ran a store for over 30 years and OLG revenue was already on a downward slide due to more locations, emergence of bingo halls and opening of casinos/slots in the province. They already kicked them in the balls with tobacco legislation and this should put the final nail in the coffin.

How does the government do "gambling research"? LOL

Yes, that is true. Hopefully we'll see an increase in the number and size of poker rooms around the province. That would be awesome. I wonder if we'll see more of those computerized poker tables? My buddy played on one of those recently and said it was pretty cool.

CN used to offer 3-6 FL, but I wouldn't know about recently. I haven't stepped foot in those poorly run suck-holes in 5 years.

I don't plan on going to the GTA casino either.
  • If they privatize casinos in Ontario, I wonder who will run them? Will they allow the US corporations run them?

Good point. If Harrah's owns/operates a casino, I MAY enter, just to upgrade my TR card.

Me neither, when I can go to Rogers and play 200bb deep 1/2, never wait more than 15 mins for a table and play $2 max rake poker.

Be nice to have some legit. tournaments closer to home.

That's what I'm thinking. Play here and generate points for a trip to Vegas. :D
  • The questioning reporter was probably referring to section 207(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada which states that only the provinces or their designates may legally conduct lottery schemes through electronic devices. PokerStars, PartyPoker, Kahnawake Gaming Crooks, etc. thinks that they are not covered by the current laws so they will continue to operate unless there is a UIGEA + Black Friday armageddon that happens in Canada.

OLG's Request for Proposals (RFP) for providers of Internet Gaming services closed on February 17, 2012, which probably included bwin, Gtech and 888. However, according to Paul Godfrey, there is yet another RFP ??? for the next step later this year. So Armageddon for online poker is still at least a year away before I have to find another hobby like stamp collecting. ;)

Definitely a stretch, I heard that comment too.

Most people in the GTA think all of southern Ontario is in the GTA. LOL
  • Canadian lawmakers staying out of the online gambling game, says expert
As more provinces jump on board, and as they gain more leverage in the gambling market, they could decide they want to put a stop to offshore sites for competitive reasons, Sadinsky said.

“When economic interests begin to come into play, maybe that will be the greater incentive to deal with the offshore sites,” he said.

“Dollars may drive the decision in the end.”

LOL, same with Georgian Downs, Dumb ass Barrie Mayor at the time did not want a casino in Barrie, so they said o.k., Innisfil will take it.
  • SO to clear this all up, its still worth going to "seneca" even more so when they screw up casinos in the area!!?...tards!
  • Soon to be followed by Harrah's and the others . . . HELL, Trump was just in town, too.
  • Oakville saying no to casino
Beat: I will never be able to play in a legal poker room in Oakviile. :'(
    Town tries to keep bingo
Brag: Oakville residents can keep playing bingo. :-[
  • Ward 1 councillors Ralph Robinson and Alan Johnston, who brought the casino motion forward, said it reaffirms the results of a 1997 referendum in which 22,652 Oakville residents voted against the establishment of a charity casino while only 4,627 Oakville residents voted in favour of such a casino.

    lol
