Chips and RFID

An interesting article I saw linked from slashdot today regarding RFID being used at a new Casino in Vegas:

  • i really was happy reading that article, cause a while back year or two ago i heard about RFID and was looking at how it may work in my business.

at that time i actually thought, this is the perfect thing for casinos ... they'll be better able to track there chips and really be able to track players play.
  • thats pretty cool. I think this is the same thing they used in the Turning Stone poker championship that was shown "live" on FSN last year. I wonder how much weight it will add to the chips.

Hmm, not sure I see the benefit to that. Not saying there wouldn't be but I am not keen on them tracking my playing, winning and losing habits.

As for the other question on weight of the chip there would be no noticeable difference to the customers. The chips are tiny and weightless (at least to the degree that humans can discern).

I wasn't saying it is really benefitial to most customers, more the business side of my mind said cha-ching
  • OK, I see what you were saying now. Great for them for sure. Creepy for the rest of us.
