Lower Mainland poker tournaments

Anyone know of any upcoming poker tournaments in the lower mainland? I only know of the riverrock tournaments (which i might be going to this week!!). I've only played in one other tournament which was a charity event, but now im looking for bigger payouts. I'm quite new to the poker scene and got addicted to watching all those wpt tournaments on citytv! Anyways any info u can pass to me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Also anyone know where to get pokerchips around the lower mainland? I'm trying to look for a place that sells in small quantities as well as in sets.

  • Sorry, I can't help you with your question, ow_dee, but I will welcome you just the same. I've just got here myself; sadly, it seems this forum is not a very friendly or welcoming one. Good luck in the future.

I'm not sure where you pulled that impression from after 2 or 3 days of posting here. Take a look around before you pass a judgement like that.
  • Okay, perhaps I am quick to define this site as unfriendly, but it certainly is not a welcoming one. One hundred and four people viewed my thread in which I seek some information, and in which I also offered these words, by way of an introduction: First off, allow me to offer this warm hello to all of my fellow Canadian poker enthusiasts!. How many posts returned my introduction? Zero. One person was gracious enough to offer some input into my question. Maybe rather than getting reflexively defensive you could have thought for a moment whether or not my comment was justified.

So your snarky comment "I'm not sure where you pulled that impression from after 2 or 3 days of posting here. Take a look around before you pass a judgement like that." reads a bit funny.
  • Just because people didnt reply to your post doesnt mean we're not friendly. I for one read your post and I didnt reply since I live in Ontario and have no idea about what the poker scene is like in Vancouver. If you're looking for affection you should get a pet. if you're looking for help with you poker game and things poker related you're in the right place. I for one dont bother posting to a question unless I have an answer or some valuable info for you. But Welcome to the site and I hope your stay is as enjoyable as mine has been. THere are many people here that are very experienced and can offer a lot of help.

    cheers

  • Maybe you could read more carefully in the future. I've already made clear that I might have been a bit hasty in my "unfriendly" judgement, but also held fast to my position that the site is unwelcoming. That's been my experience. In my previous post I remind that my first words here were: "First off, allow me to offer this warm hello to all of my fellow Canadian poker enthusiasts!" Now, 104 people viewed these words of mine, and not one of these 104 (Okay, one person has wished me a welcome privately since my last post, which I fully appreciate, btw, and now yours makes two.) saw fit to welcome me in return, therefore, by definition, the site is unwelcoming. The belittling comment about needing a pet isn't very helpful. Cheers, and thanks for the welcome.
  • hi henry,

i understand that the replies so far seem a little blunt or unwelcoming, but think of it from the other point of view:

IMHO the sharp tone of the replies comes from the shock that anyone would call this forum unwelcoming. compare this to any other pokerforum (RGP, 2+2, etc...) and im sure youll understand what we mean

the relatively small community here is actually very welcoming. in fact, id like to welcome both of you to it now ;)
  • hey

not many peeps from vancouver here, mainly ontario. also keep in mind that your question may have been asked and responded to already several times. Try a search... Sorry you felt unwelcomed, I have always found this forum to be the opposite!

  • I'm in the lowermainland as well and find that there isnt much talk about vancouver poker, never the less I have heard the Coquitlam casino will be expanding to 16 tables which will make it the second largest room in Canada, they will be holding tournaments there.

Ralphthemouse, you have a good point, and from a different perspective I respect and fully appreciate the slight defensiveness for this Canadian Poker Forum. I am, myself, Canadian and a poker-player. :canada:

At times I am in concision mode. It's an old law-habit. Honestly, the colour of my criticism was less harsh than it sounded, or was meant to sound, rather.

Thank-you for the warm welcome! The day I joined I was feeling probably a little more earnest and uptight than usual. (That was Negreanu's big day, too.) Probably I felt a twinge of disappointment to see 104 reads to my post and no hello's. For my part, I apologize and unequivocally retract my hasty criticisms.

Regarding the (illegal) cardroom scene in Vancouver it's going to have to be one of those "find out when you get there" sort of things, and the "get there" part is a while away just yet. Like I said, I've been away for awhile.

RiverRock sounds pretty good. I was looking at their menu for the buffet by the cardroom! At 4-8he the lunch buffett costs two and half big bets, but if there is a 5-10he, or even 25-50he table then, well, you can see how it's not hard to get used to a five star meal five or six times a week. :) (I'm a fatso)

    Gotta find the edges. ;)
  • Hi Henry,

Of course, welcome to the forum. Scotty, haven't you sent out the welcome package yet? :)

I doubt most people would usually just reply to an introduction unless they had something useful to say. I was a bit offended by your original post since I have only been here such a short while but have found such great help from all the others. But that is all water under the bridge. Give these guys a chance - they are very knowledgable. As one of the others mentioned, most of the posters are not from BC, so we can't help much with BC-specific questions.

You will find the people here have a great sense of humour and can be very helpful with technical poker questions. I thought the pet comment was hilarious.

    Enjoy the forum.
  • If you look at the bottom of the main page, you'll see:

"Welcome to our newest member, ninersglory"

So, you DID get a welcome. I guess your 15 minutes are up, though. :D
  • As much as I check this site regularly...
you might also want to add 604poker.com for BC specific info
  • Thanks to everyone for all their help...
  • I have always enjoyed this forum very much, and always found its members to be helpful. (except the whole banned memeber situation lol) I really do think henry that you were to quick to pass a judgment. I have been to alot of other forums dealing with poker and found that any question U possed always got flamed. no matter what, there was always someone there to tell you that you're dumb and they are great. But in this forum that has never happened. Even when someone asks a pretty obvious or maybe even dumb question. I think that ppl dont reply to your post cuz they have no info to offer you, i mean if you ask where a good poker room is and I post about how drunk I got last night that isn't very helpful at all is it?
