Casino Regina Rebuys and add ons

Can someone explain how the Rebuys and add ons work for these tourneys? Can someone get away with only buying one rebuy - Dave it sounds like you and everyone else is rebuying a couple of times? With tomorrows tourney $200 a couple of times is a lot of $.

Thanks

  • Hi Rookie,

I was in your spots a couple of days back. I had registered for the NL on Saturday and when I called to ask some questions, I was told it was unlimited rebuys.

I guess it's quite typical of these tournaments.

Ok, so I emailed Dave (this was before discovering this forum) and he was kind enough to fill me in.

Unlimited conditional rebuys means you can rebuy whenever you are below a specific chip amount. It seems this amount is usually equal to or less than the starting amount of chips - meaning you could rebuy before the 1st hand is even played. You can also rebuy right when you bust out. Or, of course, any time in between depending on the size of your stack.

For Saturdays event, Dave suggested to me that the rebuy period was 1.5 hours long. And that the condition to be eligible changed with each level (4 levels in the first 1.5 hours).

So, for Saturday, I'm going in with these assumptions: starting with 1000 chips, rebuys get you an additional 1000 chips. The add-on is for 2000 chips.

At the end of the rebuy period you have one chance to add-on.

After all of that is done, it is just played out.

I have never played a live tournament, this saturday will be my first, but this is my understanding. I've also learned that one should assume the tournament has rebuys unless they call it something like a 'freezeout' tournament (which I gues most all online tournaments are).

It'll be interesting - I'm going to try not to let all of this rebuy stuff throw any wrinkles in my strategies, but I'll probably tighten up a lot during the first 1.5 hours. PokerRoom.com started some single re-buy tournaments and they were crazy (people pushing all-in with no fear because they could fall back on a rebuy). With unlimited rebuys, I'm much more worried - so my plan is to simply play premium hands until the rebuy period is over and then fall into a more agressive strategy when people have lost their security blanket.

I'm also thinking, as previously discussed here, that Casino Regina's $60,000 estimated prize pool is very much an underestimate. I'd be surprised if it was less than $100,000

Sorry for the lengthy reply, hopefully it answered your question a little bit.

are you playing in the Saturday no-limit tourny as well?
  • Level 1 -- T1000 or less you can re-buy $100 for T1000.
Level 2 -- T2000 or less you can re-buy $100 for T1000 (if you have 950 you could take two re-buys).
    Level 3 and 4 -- T3000 or less you can re-buy $100 for T1000.

At the end of level 4 there is one add-on. No matter your chip count you get T2000 for $100.

This $100 price point is the same for Fri and Sat even though the buy-in on Fri is $200 and the buy-in for Sat is $100.
