? about my first live poker tourney at casino

Hey Dave et all,

I just got home from my first live tourney ever at the casino. Sitting back and dwelling on my play - I think I came to a realization of my game.

At the table I totally felt like I was playing extremely tight. Being my first tourney I had the thought process of playing tight going in and in the long run I know realize it probably killed me.

I can honestly say that I did not get a lot of cards - however I can now think back and realize that I could have stolen pots five or six times. I got playing and was so dam scared about losing my $ that anytime someone bet into me I was folding immediately.

Finally a question - I followed your chart for playing hands. I ventured off the chart a few times in late positions with suited connected cards and the flop never brought anything. I would limp in with these hands and if anyone behind me raised I was out - should I call more of these raises?

Dave if you are ever free for lunch I am buying.

Cory

By the way I think I finished 21st(out of 76) as they were breaking down my table after I was out to two tables. By the way I went all in with around 1600(which was short stacked) and lost to a Royal Flush - Dave it was the chick in the cowboy hat.

  • Was this limit or no-limit? If you limped in late and then folded to a raise you are playing too tight.

Generally, in the beginning: "Tight is right."

At the end: "Scoot the loot."
