Canadian Poker Player Magazine

While playing the WPT satellites at Fallsview Casino, there are flyers available stating that the first full issue of "Canadian Poker Player" magazine is coming in November! The flyer includes a photo of Jennifer Tilly showing her big pair. >:D I will be getting the new Canadian Poker Tour Members Card, which includes a subscription to the magazine.

They have this at the Brantford Casino as well.

I didn't know Jennifer Tilly was Canadian!!?!?

I was aware that she was raised in BC. I am still wondering if she is actually a Canadian, since she was born in the US, and didn't move here until she was 5!
  • Then your saying 90% of people in BC (Vancouver specifically) aren't Canadian?
  • She turned 50 on Tuesday.
  • Does anyone know if this current Poker Player Magazine is associated with the previous Canadian Poker Player Magazine?

Curious because they cancelled the last incarnation in the middle of my subscription.

Hey Blondefish. How would it be possible for me to sign up for a subscription of the magazine?

    Thanks
  • I thought the magazine went the way of the dodo...

Sirus, if the magazine is being republished pick up a copy from chapters, and fill out the subscription form inside.
  • The best way to get a subscription and support Canadian poker is to pay for a CPT membership, which includes CPT apparel and discounted tournament fees. The 2009 Player Membership Form was handed out at the CPT Finals and hopefully will be available at casinos soon. I have a few extra forms so those who will be at the upcoming rake-free games or CPT tournaments can get one from me. Waterloo poker champions Mike McDonald and Steve Paul-Ambrose are among the contributing writers (along with me :fish:), so hopefully forumers who want poker to grow in Canada will pay for a CPT membership.

  • what's the annual cost?

It costs $99.75 for the membership. Below is a link to the form required.

As for the magazine being in Chapters, I have yet to see it in the 4 locations that I have checked. They do have them at casinos though.
  • How much discount did you get in tournament fee's?
  • A forumer and I received our CPT package last week. It includes two issues of the magazine, a CPT cap, T-shirt and membership card required to be eligible for the hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of bonus prizes, including a free poker trip for 50 players. It is obviously a no-brainer to play in tax-free CPT events with bonuses "cheers: instead of any US tournament with 30% tax.
How much discount did you get in tournament fee's?
For the 2009 Canadian Open Poker Championship on May 11-17, the savings in tournament fees are between 19%-30% for a total of $145. For example, if I somehow end up playing in the $500 event, I would pay less than 7% in rake and it would be +EV to play.

  • I signed up for the CPT membership like a year ago. No shirt, no membership card, no anything. You should at least say thanks for the $100 donation CPT :)
