Private/special events at PokerStars

I got this response from PokerStars when I asked about having some kind of pokerforum.ca special event there.
We have received, over the last few months, a veritable tidal wave of
requests for private tournaments and cash games. Given that, we're
going to suspend doing *any* private events (except those for which we
have a prior commitment) until we can review the whole process and
decide exactly how to proceed with them.

Please accept our apologies for not doing your tournament or cash
game at this time. When we have reviewed the private event
situation in detail and have a reasonable plan for doing them, we'll
consider all offers.

Again, thank you for your interest and thank you for playing at
PokerStars.

  • I'll bet that some of the newer start-ups that are clawing for new members would do it.
  • Try CarribeanSubPoker.com or GoldenPalacePoker.com.

The both advertise in Canadian Poker Player and are, therefore, maybe more focussed on the Canadian market?
  • Well, I gathered from the PokerStars email that they are currently developing some way to handle these sorts of requests for private games & tournaments, possibly automatically. I'll keep my eyes open for any developments.

I don't think I want to be depositing real money into unestablished online poker sites.

  • But we can still open free accounts and play in a tournament there for Offline prizes.
  • True, but I doubt that we could find any site at all that offers freeroll private tournaments.
