Poker Stars Tourney Sunday

Another Question
Blinds $75 and $150
I have QQ in early position and raise to $450
My immediate left re-raises to $1050(very tight player. two times just calls with AK) everyone else folds
Put her on AA maybe KK
I end up calling
Board Q-5-J two spaids I have none
I check
she bets $600
I raise to $1200
She goes all in with AA
I call
Rivers her A to win and takes all my chips
I think I played this correct after the flop, but should I have folded pre-flop because I was certain she had AA or KK???
There where about 1850 entries and there was about 1200 left.

Thanks
Wader

  • Well you put your opponent on one of two hands that make you a 4 to 1 underdog at best, so yes, your preflop logic was bad.
  • if you were CERTAIN yes fold pre flop...but "certain" can be pretty blurry right :)

I don't think it gets anymore certain than that... A very tight player who is suddenly jammin the pot preflop...

Am I a 4-1 dog because those are the odds against me catching a set?
  • Holdem Hi: 1712304 enumerated boards
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
    Ad Ah 1381624 80.69 324624 18.96 6056 0.35 0.809
    Qs Qc 324624 18.96 1381624 80.69 6056 0.35 0.191

Most of your possible winning boards are when you hit a set.. but you also win (depending on the suits) if the board 4 flushes/4 straights in your favour. In this particular case, QQ can win with a Flush but has a lower chance for a straight since two of the aces are accounted for.
  • I go bust with the hand almost for sure. I doubt that I can be certain enough that he his holding A-A or K-K to fold pre-flop. I probably call and see the flop. At that point, IGHN.
  • A similar situation came up for me in this same tournament yesterday.
I was UTG and made the same 3x BB raise.
Here it was much deeper in the tournament and my stack was quite healthy and above avg.

The player who re-raises allin preflop is known to me as a very solid player, you guys who play a lot on pokerstars tournaments or big cash games would certainly have come across this guy "Tillerman". I didnt think about it long enough to fold, likely because i had enough to cover him and then some.
Thinking about it later on i should have folded. I just don't see it being possible that this player could make that move with a pair below mine.
I put him on either Aces, Kings or Ace-King.
Since i can narrow his starting hands to these 3 options, i probably should have folded??

If i win this hand I can cruise into the money with tight play.
I just wish the Ace snaps me on the flop so Im not already jumping around the room after the turn, screaming for a brick.
This tournament is a great one, time to keep my Sundays free from now on.

By the way the very next hand in the BB, it's raised and cold call to me, So i shoot in with AKo. The original raiser then reraises allin a few more thousand and cold caller calls again. The raising goon has AQ and the cold caller JJ.
I bust out here with no help.

    Kev

I started laughing when I was reading this. My girlfriend thinks I'm some kind of freak when I jump out of my chair and start screaming at the computer......I guess she doesn't get it.

*how do you quote just one section instead of the whole reply???
  • you've got to delete the unwanted sections/words
  • How do you that? I tryed highlighting them and pressing delete....but that doesn't work.

  • Hi Kev
I had the same problem with my QQ. Was I to Agressive to go all-in so early in the tourney?? ((I would have played your Q's the same way))
