Niagara Falls

I just heard from a buddy that Niagara Falls is opening a poker room this April. I'll post more if I hear anything else.

  • Niagara Falls, Ontario or Niagara Falls, New York?

  • Woot! Yet another poker room 1.5 hrs away from me! :0

Rama, Port Perry, Brantford and now Niagara.

Hey, is there a bylaw that doesn't allow Poker rooms in Toronto?

Woodbine would be a great candidate for a poker room, no?
Racetrack, slots, near the airport.... I could see that place making money in a poker room...
  • Well, I'll hope for the best when it comes to Niagara. I've been hearing rumors about a poker room for years now.

Woodbine, or at least somewhere in (or much closer to) Toronto, is a great suggestion. I'm shocked that Canada's two largest cities (as well as USA's largest city AFAIK) do not have legal public poker rooms.

  • I received this response today from Casino Niagara:

    Thank you for your e-mail.

There are no plans to offer Texas Hold Em at Casino Niagara or the Niagara
    Fallsview Casino Resort.
  • How can they not?? They should pull their heads out of their asses and have a look at what is going on everywhere else. Do they not see the growth and interest in Casino poker? :?
  • I wouldn't go so far as to say their heads are in their asses unless their asses contain a manual describing how to maximize profit per hour per square foot in casino cames.

From the casinos point of view, poker has *by far* the lowest rate of profit per hour than any other table game or machine. (Does this tell you something about the best casino game to play from the player's point of view?) The reality is that running a poker room has fairly high overhead, very low house edge per hour, and needs highly skilled dealers and floorpersons.

Despite there being growth and interest in poker, the interest in slot machines and other cash cow casino games is ceratinly not on the decrease. Putting in a poker room is along the lines of changing your tobacco farm into a dirt farm.

Also, I believe there already *is* a small poker room somewhere in the US near Niagara Falls and Buffalo (closer than Turning Stone), and I have heard that the newest casino in Niagara Falls, NY has plans on openning a poker room in the future. Perhaps the casinos in Niagara Falls, ON doesn't see the need to enter a market where there is already poker nearby in both the US and Canada. Brantford is not too far from Niagara Falls, and Brantford is closer than Niagara Falls to much of the Canadian customer base (e.g. Toronto, KW, London).

Of course, I agree that from a poker player's perspective this sucks. But I really just can't find too many good arguments as to why a casino should have a poker room from the casino's point of view.

  • There is poker coming to Niagara, American side( Seneca). I play at Branford and play with one of the dealers. She said they were in the process of training the dealers and preparing the room. They will have 14 tables, seperate room with their own restaurant, very nice from the way she descires it. Opening for sometime late April early May. My only concerns are border crossings/traffic and location, not the safest area .

In Regards to the Canadian side, I too received the same canned email ("not at this time"). But from what I've been told there is a decline in overall gambling revenue within the province of Ontario. They are to complete the new casino this spring and may very well have an excess of space in Niagara. In the same vein, I was there this past weekned and asked one of the managers about Hold-em and he said yes but no launch date or details.
  • Good detective work! :D

I don't know much about that area (across the border)... all I know about Buffalo is to wear flame-retardant clothing.

    hork.

What da!? You mean they've *already* busted all of the slot players? 8)

  • Just got off the phone with a floor manager at Seneca Casino ( Niagara falls , American side) , asked when they were opening their Hold-em room. He said they have a launch date of May 15th. Good news for those of us in the Niagara penninsula, no longer have to drive all the way to Brantford.
  • it would be nice to see a room in the ontario falls casino...my wife took me there with a nice bankroll for my birthday not too long ago. oops...no poker room. but we did well on the tables anyway.

so it's still brantford i guess.
