First Canadian Poker Tour event...

Hey guys,

I got this info. from the current issue of CPP magazine:

First major event of the Canadian Poker Tour
Casino Yellowhead, Edmonton
$100,000 guaranteed prize pool
Oct. 6, 7-stud, $50 buy-in + re-buys/add-on, $10 reg. fee
Oct. 7, Omaha 8, $100 buy-in + re-buys/add-on, $15 reg. fee

  • Wow, that seems awesome. I am going to star learning a lot of Omaha and maybe they'll do a tourney like that in the Ontario Area!
  • I cant wait to play in the CPT events, I'm going to have to miss this first one though, gonna be in vegas that week.

    :) I think i'll manage
  • The trouble of this kind of trip is that the airfare alone normally out-chips the total cost of a Las Vegas trip (air & hotel).

    Check out this wacky flight:

    08:30 Depart Ottawa, ON (YOW)
    09:39
    10:10 Through Toronto, ON (YYZ)
    11:55
12:25 Through Thunder Bay, ON (YQT)
    12:35
    13:10 Through Winnipeg, MB (YWG)
    14:15
    16:00 Connect Calgary, AB (YYC)
    16:45 Arrive Edmonton, AB (YEG)

Now that sure puts the "tour" in CPT.

  • In my home town. Alright free room and board. Now if I can just get the time off work.
  • I might consider it. Anyone from Toon wanna carpool?
  • Hey Gang,

I work for one of the airlines in Canada and am more than willing to try and help you find the best price while you travel across the country for the WTP. I won't be able to make the Edmonton CPT event but hope to at least play in one or 2 of them later down the road.

    Just send me a PM.
    Cheers,
    R3d.
  • I don't think my bankroll ATM can cover the expenses of traveling for one of these tournaments. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope there is a Southern Ontario event.
  • Is Omaha 8 NL,PL or limit?
  • Omaha 8 is usually hi/lo limit I believe.
  • what does freezeout mean???
They need to bring a few of these to ontario
  • Freezeout = no rebuys or addons. Everybody starts with 'x' number of chips, and the only way a player gets more chips is by winning them. Once you bust out, you're out. Generally speaking, freezeout tournaments have a higher buy-in to account for the lack of rebuys, and $500 seems about right to me.

I don't want to speak for Dave, but I'm sure that they are bringing some events to Ontario. Positive, in fact. Not sure where... Port Perry is already listed as a participating casino, and I'm sure Brantford and Rama won't be far behind. The first event may be in Edmonton, but it is the first of many events, so if you don't want to go to Edmonton to play, don't worry, the CPT will come to you.
