Interesting part was my river bet... I didn't know if i should bet half the pot, the pot, or go all-in. What kind of bet would he call? The pot was already decent so I figured I'd try to double up.

  • stats so far (note the showdowns) :)

During current Hold'em session you were dealt 134 hands and saw flop:
    - 7 out 13 times while in big blind (53%)
    - 5 out 14 times while in small blind (35%)
    - 33 out 107 times in other positions (30%)
    - a total of 45 out of 134 (33%)
    Pots won at showdown - 9 of 11 (81%)
  • Well, I also survived passed the second break. I'm a longshot but this is where anything can happen...

EDIT: Not today. Very shortstacked. Called with 55 and flop came down all paint KQJ so I folded. My last stand, KT, with the blinds two spots away (they would take 70% of my stack) went up against some aces. That kind of day.

I'll be watching Sloth finish this one up. ;)

  • P.S

thanks for the support for all those who came to watch! This is such an awesome community of players to come out and cheer for the good guys :) really felt great.
  • Good job.

How much did you win for your finish?
  • Nice run, Sloth.

PS: I think he won $90, Jay.
  • ya. It was a lot of work for $90 bucks, but hey, it was a shot at 10k for $20 and I did alright. I can't help but wonder how things could've been had my KK held up.
  • Yeah.. that 10k makes it all worthwhile. Making a slight profit is just a bonus. What was it? $70 dollars for 4 hours?

Also, how did you only spend 20? Didn't you rebuy at the start so you could play with 3k chips? And didn't you add-on? I always spend 30. Also, this tiem I actually rebought once... so I was -40 on the night.

PS: Not only if those kings held, but you also misplayed those aces and got no action on them :P Two big hands right there that could of/ should of meant a lot more chips for you.
  • "but you also misplayed those aces and got no action on them "

Yes and no...I probably only raised 1k or so more than I should have..it really wasn't all that much more than what a lot of the folks were raising to at that time.

It's better to win a small pot than lose a big one.
  • Congrats on your good finish. Not only have you done well to get into the money, but you had a healthy stack throughout most of the middle and middle-late stages so that you had a real shot at moving into the large money. That's really all you can realistically hope for when you're playing well--- putting yourself in a position to have a chance to win, and then you will win your share of the time (of course, still exceedingly rarely just due to the sheer numbers of players still in).

As for picking up the blinds with the Aces, this is a good result. It's night and day how you play AA in a NL tournament versus a NL cash game. Hint: You want action in the cash game.

In a tournament, you want to raise the standard size you've been raising because (a) this disguises your hand, and (b) it doesn't allow someone else with a real hand to get away from it cheaply. For example, if you just limp in, or raise small, a good hand like TT or JJ might decide to take a cheap flop. You missed out on their pre-flop action if the flop doesn't come nice for those hands. And if they do spike their set, YGHN.

If you raise *very* small (or limp), you're letting complete trash hands see the flop. Good luck gauging where you're at on the flop, and have fun telling the bad beat story. ;)

The idea with AA specifically is that almost no-one can fold Aces post-flop. If you're one of these kinds of players, you had better be darn sure to get full value from the Aces pre-flop *when they are good* to compensate you (in the long run) for the times you get outflopped and lose. Better to win lots of small pots, and the occasional big pot.

Unless you're attempting a limp-reraise (actually, even this play is quite transparent to good opponents), raise it up the standard amount with those Aces.

Ahhh.. forget about all that. Just raise the minimum with AA. It's all good. ;)
