Bad beat or bad read?

Hi. I'm pretty new to poker so I'm still not sure if I'm experiencing bad beats or I read the situation wrong. Hopefully someone can shed some light. Here is how it went down...
  • I'm in BB, dealt pocket T's.
  • CO bets 3 BB's.
  • BTN calls
  • I call
  • FLOP T(h), 9(s), A(h)
  • I bet 2/3 pot
  • CO calls, BTN folds
  • TURN 6(d)
  • I bet 2/3 pot
  • CO calls
  • RIVER 8(s)
  • I bet 2/3 pot
  • They raise 2/3 pot, I call, they have the straight 8 to Q...

Frigging call...

  • Tournament or cash? Stakes? Played with villain before? I likely check call river since it did complete a double gutter str8 draw. Also would have given op a chance to bluff with a missed flush draw. If he had missed a flush draw he would likely have folded to your river bet.. Very read dependent.
  • 3 bet pre, you can see co range is wide, q8, so 3 bet more. As played don't donk this board almost ever and check raise.

Villain had QJ I believe, since 8 was river card. Bad read...:D

Still like your line better though...
  • Helpful to know stack sizes and whether this is a cash game or a tournament. (Assuming cash) If cash, what is the buy-in and what are the blinds?
