    Johnny T
  • Gah!!! It's Johnny!!!! Plz Plz Plz post more in the PNL section, and get Devo and Lou to do so aswell. Did the Maple Leaf freezeout tourny air on PNL on Thursday?>?? How is PNL (I dont get cable at university so i cant see it :( ) Is there any chance PNL will put their episodes online cause i'd sure like to watch em. How's poker going? Sorry to derail.

I'm tired of guessing hands, too many possibilities, so i'll just say he made the correct call after thinking about it enough after you played a certain hand quite agressively. And either your hand stood up or he got lucky and out drawed you... ? WOOT. I'm quite interested to see what actually happens, hope you decide to post it soon.

P.S Are there any televised tournaments I could see you play in Dave? I really want to see how you play in big live tournaments. I love seeing the different styles of plays between pros. I find it increases my knowledge/inventory or plays to pull of people... God my drunken speach is crap... :D!
  • Without readign all the replies, and hopefully these combindations is still "available"

    1. JQ vs. 66
    2. JT vs. 66
    3. JQ vs. KQ
    4. 89 vs. 99
  • okay since we know daves notes says the guy is tight and the other guys notes say that dave likes to steal we can assume that no one has any kind of hand whatsoever. With this assumption made both missed the flop and both again figured the other had garbage but their was too much in the pot just to fold.

So dave likely has something like 7-9 or maybe 9-10, I would assume someone picked up a flush draw but I am not sure if it was the opponent or if he had a small pocket pair. So we will give him either 33 or J7s

Really looking forward to displaying my new hat at my home game :-)
  • With only 4 1/2 hours to go, pedro55 is close.
  • I am on two sides of the fence on this one. Based on your commentary on him and you stating, "that the decision was not automatic," I have a feeling you had a low pocket pair, let's say 2-2 - 6-6 and your reraise was a semi bluff to get him off a hand, umm let's say KQs, even KQo. I'm thinking he hit a pair. (Or on the fllipside hands were reversed and you didn't hit).
  • THE SOLUTION....

I do not think that it was very likely that anybody was going to get the right answer.

I consider this to be a very interesting hand of poker that, I think, is perfectly illustrative of the fact that sometimes poker is not a card game but is simply a battle of two minds.  I lost this battle.
Average is 20K. I have 30K. My opponent has 34K.

Both of us are in great shape. Neither needs to take any unneccesary risks. Often this will work to my advantage since my opponent may be careful.
I have only played 9 hands with him in this tournament. In those nine hands he has raised, flat called a raise, and limped. So... he is playing a lot of hands. I have this note from a previous encounter:

"will raise and fold to re-raise
    very tight with big stack"

This isn't much to go on. But, it's all that I have. I know he is capable of raise and fold. This tells me two things: a re-steal is possible and that he is probably a pretty good player. Bad players can't fold after raising. I also note that he is conservative with a big stack. A perfect re-steal situation.
It is folded to my opponent on the button. The blinds are 600-1200 and there is an ante of 50. He makes it 4,000 to go.
    The small blind folds.
I give it some thought. The play of my cards is not, for me, automatic. I make it 16,000 to go.

I have 5c-4c. I am in a sitatuation in which a re-steal seems like it might be a good gamble. And, I have a hand from my re-steal package (suited aces, suited connectors/one gappers/two gappers). So I decide to attempt the re-steal.
    My opponent calls.
The flop is As 8s Ac.
    I move all-in for my remaining 14,000.

    Damn. He called. Rats.

    OK... now what?

I did not think he has a big ace. If he did, he would have re-raised pre-flop. He is out of position for a stop-n-go play and with a hand like AK he does not want ot see a flop of J-9-7 and then face an all-in bet from me. So... if he doesn't have a big ace, what does he have? I figured small/middle pair and I thought I could get him to lay it down. A bold bet on my part would get him to believe that I have an ace OR a pocket pair.
He appears to give it a lot of thought. He eventually calls. He wins the pot and eliminates me.

    He shows KcJs.

    Wow.

    Nice call.

I can only assume that this players' notes about me said something like, "Love to re-steal and will press."

I chuckled to myself when a couple of the players at the table commented that this was a nice gift from me to him. Uh... no. It's only a gift if he makes a couple of pretty fine calls. I think I gave him a couple of tough decisions and he choose right twice. No gift.
  • *whistles* That is one mighty fine call. Ya no way i'd ever have guessed those two hands...

Oops fogot the other hand ranges -- unpaired paint which the villian has a better kicker. Now that I think of it, this would be a more memorable, unlikely matchup.

    Cheers

I think Lou pretty well has it here
