Jeez Cory, pick a side of the fence, would ya!
  • Sorry Rob (and Cory), I just got in from work so there's no way I can get there. Even with my reasonably fast driving skillz I don't think leaving Bradford at 6:30 will get me to Waterloo anywhere near in time.
  • Mario may be late, blind him out. See you all soon.

Lol, no it's not suppose to be me. For the record though, it's called an avatar not an aviator. The character is Stewie from the show 'the family guy' you should check it out.

Now, my report from the WPT super-Satellite. It really comes down to two hands for me, Brent you'll enjoy this one. I'm first to post meaning I'm out first and feeling fairly ambivalent about it.

Im in the SB and the table is starting to get a little more aggressive but the stacks are deep and I'm always weary of EP limpers at this stage. I have AQ and just complete the extra 25. Flop K 6 5 rainbow. Jeremy bets out 150 and I call the pot sized bet, not a great call but one nonetheless and I'm really thinking that he's betting with a medium Ace (A10-J) or an open-ender. Turn comes the As. I check and Jeremy bets 600. Ok, now I have to take him seriously. Perhaps he has two pair now but I'm still trying to convince myself that he has a medium ace. I call. River is another Ace but puts a flush on board. I try and represent the flush with my bet of 350, an underbet. It is unsucessful, Jeremy raises another 800. I go into the tank knowing he doesn't have the flush but unsure if I'm beat or not. I bank on the fact that he has a medium ace (no, not medium pace) and call announcing that he "could have 55". Jeremy shows 66 for the boat. Well played Sir.

A few hands later I see the pot opened for 500 total, blinds 50/100, from a new player that I have pegged as pretty straight forward but will overbet his big hands. I have yet to determine what he thinks is a big hand though. Folded to me in the BB, I look down to see AdQc "Oh Crap" I announce. I call. Flop As Qd 2d. I check hoping to induce a bet of course. The previous hand this same player went all in for about 4K on the flop after a preflop raise and only 500 in the pot. I was hoping for the same. Player thinks about it and checks. Turn is a Kd, I bet out 500 and am immediately raised all in for another 3200 covering me. I think about it, I know he doesn't have AK as he would have bet out the flop (straight forward player). I'm worried about a slow played set though. I call with the diamond draw and the strong two pair only to see my opponent flip over KK for a turned set. Well played Sir. I'm out in 27th and get a whopping .1%. Great time as always, with a classy bunch. Good luck to the winners!

  • Crap!

Sorry Rob and fellow players but I got so busy with a myriad of things (mostly home selling/buying related headaches) that I completely forgot about this event. I was so looking forward to it it and then I go and miss the damn thing.
My apologies again to all for making a commitment to attend and then not following through or informing Rob that I was gonna miss it.

  • Congrats to Zeke and Wes, two Bristol St. unknowns taking down the top two prizes. "Ranger" Mike picked up the bubble cash prize of $70. We'll keep everyone apprised of how are two hopefuls do, and hopefully we'll have dates soon on when they're heading down to Fallsview so that we can cheer them on to victory!!!
  • Zithal, has Zeke and Wes told you yet which Friday they'll be playing? I am thinking of going with a couple of friends on September 1 to play in the Step 2 satellites.

Depending on how long it takes for 20 players to sign up for the satellite at Fallsview, I may also play at Casino Niagara's $330 Step 2 satellite for the $2,700 WPT Canadian Poker Open Championships.

Not yet. Wes and Zeke are friends of a friend of Tye, so I've asked him to keep tabs on them.

Both are considering heading down in the end of Sept.

Alright. The magic date is September 22nd.

I hope to have results to post shortly thereafter.

  • FYI, Steve Wilson, Rangers WPT Satellite winner is also planning on going down the same day to play. We we're at Fallsview again last night, watched another couple of the satellites and both of us feel these games are very "beatable" with some good smart play, as well as maybe a few cards. I am also planning on going down that same afternoon so can rail all 3 and cheer them on. Jeff
  • Thanks for the update. Are they planning to sign up in the afternoon or night? Like compuease, I want to rail all 3, and will probably use my voucher in a separate satellite.

  • So when are these guys going down? Is it still planned for tomorrow (Friday)? What time?

Yes, they are going down Sept. 22, but I don't know what time.

Both work, so I would assume an evening. If I hear more, I'll post A.S.A.P.

  • Went down to Fallsview late yesterday to play a little 2/5 and see if "our" winners we're playing the $640. I believe that Wes busted out before we got there but Zeke was playing with about 18 players (of 20) still in. We never did get to play 2/5 so went over to Niagara instead. At that time the $640 was just down to 1 table and Zeke had about an average stack I believe. From the play I saw this was not a tough satellite at all, if you got any cards. Looked to be quite weak play. Anyone know how he made out?

Wes busted out in 5th for his tourniment. Nice try Wes.
I haven't actually talked to Wes, so detales should be fourth-comming.

Allow me to continue this little tale of Zeke...

After tight aggressive play and facing a sizable raise, Zeke finds KK in the hole. Re-raise All-in.

The Big stack at the table ponders for several minutes and calls. Big stack has 99. Shaking his head he states, "I shouldn't even be in this hand."

The flop produces a three card straight for the Big stack. Turn makes it a Four card straight. The River, you guessed it, completes the straight for the big stack.

Zeke busts out ... IN 4TH PLACE! ARRRRRRGH CURSED BUBBLE!

Zeke, congrats on the fantastic attempt.

That's all the detales I have for now. I'll post more as the news comes in.
  • Fantastic try, guys! Tough luck on the bubble. :(
