How do you play this?

Playing in a MTT.  Down to heads up.  Myself and a player that has been catching everything.  He has 48000 chips I have 39000.
I K4o.  Blinds are 1000-2000 and he makes it 6000 to go, I call.  I have red cards.

FLOP - 10s 4s 4c
As soon as the flop hits he goes all in.  No hesitation.
TT is a possible hand with his preflop raise, but I don't really have respect for his game so I have no idea.
I have seen him raise 10 times the big blind 4 handed with K5s and A7o.  That's all the info I really have.

Do you instantly call? Or fold?

The rest of the hand is in white below:

I eventually call.  He flips over As,Js.  The turn is a spade, but wait, a KING...woot.
I ended up taking it down.  But I think I got lucky.  I should have laid down I think.
But want to know what you all though.

  • Trip 4s? And you didn't sprain your wrist?
  • I call faster then instantly, no brainer IMHO.
  • Your description is an aggressive player with a poor grasp of hand values.  He could be a real donkey and have something like AQ, but I'd put him on a spade draw or something like JT.  If he's holding the one hand that beats me, I go broke, but I'd assume you're ahead and just have to dodge either a T or a spade.
  • I thought insta call right away, but I always try and re run the hand in my head and make sure I am right.

I was sitting for a long time asking what did he raise with? Why the instant all in if he doesn't have a hand?
I beg to differ on the no brainer comment, I think it is good to think about. I am by no means a tight player, but I do like making good decisions and usually never marry a hand.

So the immediate all in doesn't scare anyone? Or TT, or A4..I dunno.

Thanks for the input so far..:D

Three hands (at the time), Beanie, three hands.
  • A ding ding ding guised as a hand analysis post, nice. Congrats on the win.
  • I click call before the button even pops up... You'd be a fool to lay down the 4th best possible hand heads up for all the money...

    Mere details ;)

Think about it this way... If you were in his shoes, would you insta-push if you flopped a boat, or trip 4s with an Ace kicker?!?!?

    /g2
  • Of course I would if I had been pushing all along.
  • If the instant all-in is from a loose or non-solid player, it is much more likely that he is bluffing or on a draw than he has the nuts. It is always good to take the time to think before acting, but once you thought about the situation, it is a simple call.

You thought that you got lucky, but it was actually your opponent that needed to get lucky. You were a 75% favourite after that dream flop. Even if he got lucky and hit his flush, any King, 10, 4 or other pairing of the board would still beat him.

Thanks Greg, that really made me realize a hole in my game. I get consumed with why he did what he did, not what would I do if I had what I think he has.
    Again, thanks bro.
  • I'd call his push with any ten so yes I would call with the 4th nuts.
  • sooooo many hands we would do this with, overpair, any ten, any 4, spades. I would call sooooooo fast
  • I'd lose so much money on this hand, because I'd go all-in out of turn. :D
