Bristol St. presents... The 2006 Bristol Street Heads-Up Championship (Waterloo)

With the summer here and temperatures rising, it's getting more and more challenging to find a cool day to get 32 of us together in my place. So, a new summer tradition begins this year...
The Bristol Street Nightclub and Casino presents...

:s: :h: THE BRISTOL STREET 2006 HEADS-UP CHAMPIONSHIP :d: :c:
No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament Heads-up Double Elimination Tournament
Starts: As soon as we get 32 players confirmed. Location: Anywhere local

$30 Buy-in - Double eliminiation

$$$ Pay-out (assumes 32 players)$$$
1st place - 50% ($480)
2nd place - 25% ($240)
3rd place - 15% ($144)
4th place - 10% ($96)

The Bristol Street Heads-Up Championship is a double elimination tournament. (ie. you are knocked out of the tournament once you've recieved your second loss, which means it's possible to lose your first match and still win the tournament)

Once 32 players sign-up, a date will be given for the live draw of the brackets. Matches then may start anytime after this. Please pay your entry fee to the Tournament Director as soon as you can.

All bracket information will be kept at Bristol Street as well as online here. The matches will not be played all at once. When you have a match, it's the responsibilty of the two players involved to arrange a time to get together and play according to the rules listed below. The players are free to use Bristol Street as a neutral location to play their matches. Match results are to be sent to the tournament director once complete.

If a match is played outside of Bristol Street the players take the risk that no Tournament Director will be on hand to resolve disputes. Matches which involve Top 8 finishes are strongly recommended to be played at Bristol Street. Matches that involve a Top 4 finish are required to be played here.

As a reminder, all events at Bristol Street are rake-free!!!

Match Format

Each match will have the same format with each player starting with 6,000 chips. The suggested distribution is 12 x (green-25), 12 x (black-100), 9 x (purple-500). If a different combination of colour and/or distribution is used, both players need to be made aware of this.

Blinds levels are 20 minutes long and breaks are taken on an as-needed basis. The blind schedule is; 25-25, 25-50, 50-100, 75-150, 100-200, 150-300, 200-400, 300-600(capped) I'm anticipating matches to last roughly 1.5 hours (though, of course, could be as short as one hand)

Player of the Year Points

This tournament will be played for PoY points. The Champion will also win a seat into the Bristol Street 2006 GRAND FINAL to be played in December. Points earned will depend on finish and are as follows..

1st - 57 points

  • OK. Re-read the post and anything below this will count..
  • Topics for discussion...

    1. Do we like the payout? We could go to Top 6; 45/20/15/10/5/5..
    2. Format of the event (ie. blinds, chips, etc)? Is there enough play here.. should we extend the levels?
    3. Any other feedback would be great.. I'm making this up as I go along and hope the format is fun.
  • I like the payout....keep it!!! Everything else is good too. By the way...I am 100% in for this one!!! Put me down!!
  • Making me write it twice... sigh I'm in

I think that we should have a time limit though, have people commit to complete this by a certain date...

So, the most the 1st place guy could have to play is.... hrm... the 2x elimination makes this tough... but I think they should say something like "All rounds must be played by...." to crown a champ

If you take a look at the link to the brackets, it shows how the eliminations work to put you back in the tournament. The winner will have eventually played 6 or 7 games depending on if he beats the winner of the loser bracket in one game.

The timelimit isn't terribly important. I plan on running other tournament while this is going on and I'm guessing the whole thing will take a month or two to play out (taking into account summer vacations and things like that)

The biggest challenge is people that decide to play from out of town. As long as they're ok coming in multiple times, I'm ok too.

I also plan on announcing open house days that players can come over and play a round or two.
  • Hey Rob....now that you put that it could be 6 or 7 trips to Waterloo....better take me off the list. I got so excited when I saw this, but the traveling so many times would be killer.
  • I'm in
  • Please sign up Jenn and I.
  • Hmm... I might even be able to get in on this. I'll see how it fills up before I make a commitment.

P.S. What is this post doing in the Club Games section!?!?!

Ok I"m ALL IN this time.   And add Aimee to the list.  I'm already booking off July 21, 22 or 23 we are out of town for a wedding.

PS Also to everyone whose playing as long as Aimee and I are both alive we have no problem playing at Bristol and if we can both play same time that would be great.
  • Rob, sign me up. Sounds fun.

How about playing the preliminary matches online? I think most heads up sitngos are for money, but perhaps we could find a site that would faciliated this. Once we're down to 8 we can then move the tournament to Bristol!

    Cheers

Consider it a social exercise. Grabs some chips, a deck of cards and head out for a pint! :) Besides, it's tricky to define a "final 8" due to the double-elimination format.

I'll be running other events and casual Friday's etc, around this, so playing these matches will also be used as filler when players bust out of other games.

    Rob.
  • The tournament is now 50% full!! Another 16 players and we're ready to begin. Likely, if this happens in the next day or two, I'll host a Casual Friday this week to play some poker and do the live drawing.

  • Is there a way for out-of-towners to participate without having to drive to Waterloo up to seven times? For example, will the West Side Poker Club and RiverRatJosh allow a heads up match after players get eliminated from their events on July 8 and 23?

If there are other players in the Milton-Toronto area interested, we can all be grouped in the same bracket (e.g., #13-#20) so we can at least play our first two matches without having to go to Waterloo. Will there be another deep stack tournament or dedicated heads up dates at Bristol Street so that out-of-towners will only have to travel once or twice?
now that you put that it could be 6 or 7 trips to Waterloo....better take me off the list.  I got so excited when I saw this, but the traveling so many times would be killer.
  • Blonde, if enough of us from out of town play we can always play non bristol style. I would love to only drive to milton or mississauga to play, but will make the hike to waterloo. The biggest thing will be to follow the blind schedule. I'm sure there are enough of us that would play this from the GTA that the drive to waterloo 7 times probably won't happen.
  • woods and eddy are in if its during the week thanks
  • Hey Rob....

Could u please add Jeremy and I to the list....
