Is 'Home Games' dying???
Well, it sure looks like it so I've decided to become self-appointed leader of Home Games until someone else comes.
But it looks like it isnt getting as many hits as other sub-forums so ill try and post info/questions here to get it back up and running.

In high-school we used to play poker at lunch, with stacks of bills piled up on the tables. In June we would even take the games outside behind the baseball diamond, and all cut class, sitting in the sun, playing cards. Awesome times!
Then in University, the games just got better and better. We would plan extravagant nights around it, usually ordering UFC fights on PPV, gambling on those, and then playing 12 hours of cards afterwards. In University I met a ton of cool people I would have probably never met, only because we played poker. I'm still great friends with all my high-school and university poker buddies. It's the true tie that binds!
Now we all have our own homes, apartments, wives, girlfriends, whatevers. Hosting the monthly game is always a pleasure, and I know that when it's my turn to host, I always make sure to put on a stellar event. I take great pride in doing so, and so do my buddies.
All you need is a couple of like-minded players to make it happen. It's easy to find new guys too. I always ask people when I meet them (if I like them, that is) if they are into poker. It's a great way to forge new relationships, and then win their fucking paychecks...
I have a bi-weekly game going that I started last November. We never have a problem with guys showing for this one but it is a bitch trying to get the boys together any other time for a game..
I don't really feel comfortable playing high-stakes games against friends. I could never feel right about winning a grand off someone I actually liked. Against guys you don't know, its all fine and dandy, but against friends, never.
That being said, I wouldn't have any problem taking a brown off my buddies, heck I do it all the time...
Not to worry, I assumed that, and it was a good one.
I agree, sometimes it's really hard to get your friends to all agree on a date. Especially as you get older, and people have kids and shit. I am still unencumbered by any little ones, so I am always craving a game.
Usually every group needs a general, the guy who plans everything, who pulls all the troops together, who makes it happen. If my buddies try and back out on plans, we just call them TRON for the next year - like the dude in that movie Fubar, who backs out on his headbanger buddies.
I even started up a Tron gallery complete with awfully rendered MS Paint graphics. Stiff the boys, and you will end up in the gallery...
The lesson - as always - a goodly amount of public humiliation is always the greatest motivator.
***I tried to post the pics - but they were not coming up? I do not know why the images I select from my web site, don't appear on this site??? It is an enigma...
Anyways - here is the link: http://www.geocities.com/illogistix/Tron.html
To post pics, first right click on the picture and then copy "properties" address.
Then on the pokerforum post,
1.click the Img square
2.right click and then paste
3.click the Img square again...
You dig?
It's just the pics hosted on my geocities site do not appear on here - they only render as red x's...
When I get older and have a career and shit, I'll definitely be playing weekly or monthly home games with my oldest poker friends. Just like you see on television... 8)
