2016 Casino Rama Tournaments

Casino Rama's 5%-raked $285+$15 bimonthly Monday tournaments will be back in 2016 starting on February 8 and 22. If Irunit4times, DirtArse, Monoxide, UBetIfold, Wetts1012, etc. are interested in swapping 5% for the 3 HPO prizes, please PM me as I will try to play every one until DirtArse & I leave for the WSOP in June. If somebody I know wants to play but is not comfortable with the buy-in total of up to $2,400 by then, PM me if you want to sell any action (BAP).

  • What are the structure for these tournaments ?
  • Thanks Buddy, hopefully around that time work will have slowed down a bit and I can make it back out there for more. I would be willing to swap also.

DJ - structure is ok. Def not the best, but I've played in far worse structures too. The field composition makes up for the lack of amazing structure anyway.

From what I remember, stacks were really shallow at and around bubble play. Dont know if the one i cashed was the norm or exception, Buddy has cashed in it many times to know what averages are from start to finish.
  • Updated OP with 2016 dates. 10,000 starting chips and 25-minute blinds. It takes ~7-9 hours before I offer a deal with a forumer. ;)
Rama has some face-palming :-[ non-TDA Rules, so talk to me before you play. I am willing to drive or carpool. The cash games are relatively soft and can be played while waiting for the other players to finish.
  • I liked these games, the structure was a little short stack, but if you are any good with your push fold then you will be fine. There are some pretty weak players there, so that is a plus. The thing I like the most was the time to play the tournament from start to finish! I love that it starts at 1pm and I final tabled and it was about 9pm, mind you I did not win it, but still. The deepstacks at BCC and Heron, they start at 11am and will run past midnight for a final table, 80 players start same as at Rama, not to mention the rake difference.

I think I am going to play a lot more of these in the new year! I am pretty sure I can carpool with Buddy to most of these, but anyone else interested in going and want to tag along, just let me know and if I'm going your more than welcome to join.
  • If you want your winning tax amount back don't waste your time and visit Refund management services. The whole process will take a minimum 4-6 months to receive the funds from the time they file.

So what should we do oh mister tax expert? And since when did you have to pay tax on Canadian winnings?
  • If anybody is willing and able to commit to playing on Monday, February 8, please PM me ASAP as I will be buying the tickets this week. I'm willing to consider buying up to 50% of your action if you don't have the poker bankroll for this highly +EV tournament.

Considering going but not played at Rama. Can you share where they are outside TDA?
    Cheers
  • When you mistakenly expose your card, you are given a mandatory penalty of sitting out the next hand. It is not as terrible as Fallsview's habit of improperly killing players' hands in WPT tournaments. :o Only GBH complies with TDA Rules, where I will be playing the Deep Stack this Wednesday.

A female player wants me to BAP for 50%, so if I can make it to Rama in time after GBH tomorrow, I will buy the Rama tickets for my friends and horses. A forum member has agreed to swap 5% for the HPO prizes and wants to carpool on February 8, so if anybody else wants a ticket before it sells out and can pick it up at Fallsview/Oakville, please PM me.

  • I've missed the boat on the February 8th tourney but might attend one in March. Taking Feb 17-19 off from the day job to attend in the $1100 at Fallsview so I can't take off the 22nd as well (or can I?). I'm not crazy about the drive to Rama from downtown Toronto but sounds like its going to be good event.
  • Below is the remaining 2016 schedule for the best-value live tournament that I know of. While the rake is only 5%, it usually takes 9-10 hours for the tournament to finish.

Including PocketsTwos, there will be four of us that got a U$2,500 HPO voucher overlay to take a shot at the >= U$1.5 million HPO Season 4 Championship on June 23-26 in Las Vegas. A couple of friends won or chopped the top prize including voucher. Several forum members cashed in the final eight, and/or made money at the cash games. One of the HPO players and I have bought our tickets for the next tournament, as it will probably sell out as usual.

  • oh wow they are doing tournaments throughout the summer. I am on holiday's the 1st week of May but most likely will be down at Fallsview May 2nd. I was thinking of Windsor as well but looks like that's a no go due to their changes of like wanting a $200 deposit for a room.
  • Can tickets be purchased online/phone or just in-person?
  • Online via ticketmaster. They also charge a fee for this service.
  • TicketMaster has hidden fees so it totals almost as much as Rama's $15 rake. You will still have to pick up your ticket at Rama. My friends and I usually buy at Rama with no fees.

Okay thanks for the heads-up. I doubt I'll make it there in advance so I'll have to live with the extra fees. I don't play these too often so the rake isn't a huge concern to me at this point. The drive to Rama sucks though lol
