  • Wait, the fact that there's a buffet voucher makes it rake free?

Woop circuit gives you free hat and t-shirt, should we subtract that from the rake as well?
  • Idk how anyone can be so nitty and rake obsessed

Just play the tournament and make da manies

That's not really the point. It's important to understand rake.

It appears BF picks and chooses assigned values for what he considers rake.

Why are the benefits backed out but not the costs (IE gas money)

What if I'm not hungry and don't eat the buffet, is it still " rake free"?

Hey, I understand fully about rake, I only play cash games online these days, and have paid a shit ton

Saying an event is rake free because of a food voucher is one of the funniest things I've heard in a while

Live mtt rake is far too high, but live poker is so Damn soft, it has to make up for it (i.e a live 1k+100 will be 25x softer than online 1k+50)
  • Casinos are running a business.

Supply and demand in an entertainment industry. I play poker tournaments because they're fun, and I understand and accept this is the fee I pay for the casino to supply my entertainment.

BF simply applies this at a greater degree than I do. That's OK. I just don't understand the logic behind what is considered a part of the rake and
    What is not.
  • It's all about value and people perceive this differently.

NASA thinks a good hammer is worth $200. I'm ok with a $5 one.

I have a few hammers I would be willing to sell!

  • Holy thread derailment, Batman! When I first played in GBH this year, I was pleasantly surprised that the all-you-can-eat dinner buffet with snow crab legs worth $25 was free. So aside from the low beatable rake, it is a nice BONUS to eat a free buffet with Popkorn or other regs.

For the record, GBH's rake is 9%, compared to at least 11.8% during WPT Montreal.

Do the Royal Flush girls count as 'crab legs' or legs w crabs?

Sorry, the two RFG and two partypoker models won't be included in the all-you-can-eat buffet. Are you coming with pkrfce9?

  • But you get a free dinner at wpt mtl. Isn't it rake free then?
  • Actually love the schedule since I'm only coming down for the main. Love how there's at least a 7pm tourney every night, something fallsview desperately needs.
  • No, as Playground's #1 fan, Allen "3-time WSOP-C Champion" Kessler will undoubtedly post in the 2+2 threads, :p it has one of the highest fees for WPT Main Events. The pros who fire three re-entry bullets will pay a total of $1,365 in fees, while you and I will only have one satellite bullet.

It's still the #1 poker room in the entire North America for Canadians to play tournaments (not cash games).

  • The low buy-in re-entries are super fun. That's one of the biggest reasons we do them - players LOVE them. There are lots and lots of players that travel ONLY to play those! They want to play for a big prize pool, they want to play a "big time" tournament over multiple days, and they want the whole experience of a WPT or something like that - but will never have $3850 to spend on a poker tournament.

And to be frank, there's nowhere else in Canada where you can make a $150 poker investment and play for a top prize of greater than $30K.

Event 3, "The $250 Frenzy" is just over the top with its 6 Day 1s which will build a huge prize pool for just $250. Even if (and there's no way this happens) half of the field spent two bullets (so, $500 total) there's still a ton of value.

But even if you don't like the low buy-in re-entries, the schedule at the back end is amazing. The $330 6-Max and 8-Max will be great, and both of the bounty tournaments will be fun as well.
  • Your comparing rake of a 3k vs a 200. Might as well work at mcdonalds because your low income is tax free lol
  • And thanks BF for posting, saves me some typing. Going to the PFC news Twitter to hopefully add to discussion...
  • No, actually the rake percentage for higher buy-ins almost always goes down, i.e., the casino collects more money/table but a lower % of the higher buy-in. For example, WPT Fallsview's rake for its $125 tournaments was 12%, but it went down to 8.8% for the $5,000 Main Event. Playground is one of the rare rooms where the rake remains high at 11.8%, whether its a $220 buy-in or a $3,850 buy-in. The WPT Borgata $3,500 ME you're playing has a rake of only 8.5%, while WPT Legends of Poker $3,700 ME has a rake of 8.2%. This was mentioned by the US players before when they were trying to decide if it's worth flying to another country.

Anyway, the main point of this "WPT Montreal" thread is which members are going to WPT Montreal, believe it or not. :o Is it:
    1) actyper
    2) Blonde:fish:
    3) T8urmoney
    4) OHTNCTRHM?

  • I dont care if I pay %11.8 rake or %9 rake, its short-term and "shot taking"

I would be a satellite winner, or not playing at all.

playing a WPT once a year I dont care what the rake is,

    playing 12 tables online at a time cash/SNG 5 days a week 4 weeks a month,

better damn well know what your paying in rake and how much rakeback your getting.

    ANYWAYS

will I be attending: remains too be seen.

bubbled the $500 WPT Montreal satellite before. :(

have too win one BEFORE Its too late to schedule it off work.

You're welcome. Next time, can you do all the typing and replying please? I have to get up earlier for a $200 + $20 fee - $25 buffet tournament. :D
  • OK Gang a bit late notice, and not ideal scheduling for the travelling player, but there will be an overlay tournament...

WPT Montreal Mega Overlay - 5 Seats Added to the prize pool ($19,250 value)!
Two Day 1s - Monday November 3 & Tuesday November 4th, Day 2 on Wednesday.
Players can enter each day 1 twice for a total of 4 possible entries.
    Buy in $100 + $10 (plus optional $5 Dealer add-on)
    Late reg/re-entry for 6 levels.
    15,000 + 5,000 starting stack.
20-minute levels through level 9, 30 minute levels following.
Day 1 will play though 16 levels and all players who survive will return for Day 2.

    You heard it here first!

    What I Don't Like

    - Too many re-entries. While there were seven days of re-entries in this month's Playground Festival, you may be up against players who can re-enter up to THIRTEEN times and the full rake of up to 13% will be charged every single time! :(

    I agree with this 100%

    Boycott re-entry tournaments.

Casinos will keep pushing these on players if we keep playing them.
  • Ya! So instead they'll just raise their rakes or drop the guarantees. Then attendance will drop because out of towners will be unhappy. Maybe the casinos will just cancel the tourneys altogether if they can't make a profit.

That'll teach them! Those greedy bastards.
  • Is there going to be shuttles for the main at either partner hotel?
  • Anybody else here considering going? There's a $550 GBH Deep Stack on Nov. 5 that I pre-bought for, so one option for me is to sell it and carpool to this. Ideally with the forumer who drives a Tesla Model S ;) instead of my Mazda.

LOL, until you hit the big jackpot with Lotto 6/49 SNGs? ;)
  • pkrfce9 wrote: »

Boycotts only work if you've been at the venue before. Have you played in a Festival at Playground Poker Club?

In any case, Next-day Re-entry - within limits (i.e., next day for main events) - is not going anywhere. It is a key component of throwing a large-scale event, particularly outside of major poker centers such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, or Atlantic City.

It's too bad for you that you won't join us for what is sure to be a fantastic series as usual.
  • mike, you need to read the forum more often or more carefully
