So big derail again, but that might be ok. This CPT Spring Event crushed all the GTDs and while they were conservative, I can't remember the last time Alberta seen 270 players in a 1k!
Getting back to DeepStacks, seeing numbers like this only gives me more confidence that we can knock it out of the park and attract players from all over to the Grey Eagle. The hotel looks to be done May ish.
Heard some terrible things about this Kelly person...true?
I've both condemned & praised him in the past, none of which I'd go back on, and there are many threads to support this here. I'm hoping this discussion can go in another place but I will say as I've been posting since burying the hatchet in Montreal 2012, he seems to have made players I've talked to whole and honoring his agreements at the present. He is not the licensee for the CPT and gaming now either. If this week was any indicator, it's a new beginning for the CPT or more relevantly, poker in Alberta.
So how is everything looking for the series, Jon? I believe I read that you have arrived in Calgary?
I haven't ruled out showing up myself... & Seeing some of my Western friends but from across the table not behind my laptop keyboard!
Alas I'm about a 20% underdog at this late stage...
Calgary is home for me. I'm staying at Grey Eagle for the last weekend though, might be what you read. Getting to be a big fan of "staycations". Last series stayed at Deerfoot for a few days. Then I can follow final tables & have a few bevies with friends.
To answer your question, I feel like everyone between Calgary & Edmonton knows about it, best structure & start stack here ever, and even the CPT as a Grey Eagle partner is promoting it.
I've talked to a lot of regs over past 6 months and all planned on playing it. We get the new theatre thanks to a special disposition - I don't think 300+ is a problem and Calgary attendance has been better in 2014 overall than past 4 years.
DeepStacks is pulling out all the stops, having Matt Savage TD is being very well received, I think this will be a great event.
The smaller buyins outside the main (save the $550) should be perfect on the heels of a poker heavy summer as well, seems to work well for you guys out east.
98% chance I will be up north till the main, but Bren will play some during week. I'm also out of town this weekend, so see everyone on 26th!
