Rake-free satellites to $4 Million+ WPT Fallsview
With the announcement of the long awaited return of the World Poker Tour back to Ontario after more than five years, every poker playa and their brotha will be headed to Fallsview. Fallsview expects that the prize pool for the $1,100, $2,500 and $5,000 events on February 18-24 will total over $4 million! Some of the WPT/PartyPoker bigwigs will be there, maybe even a Royal Flush Girl or two. >:D
Forumer PIRANHA is willing to host legal rake-free satellites (RFS) in Georgetown (Ontario). There are five players interested so far, so we need at least five more.
Here is ONE option for the first RFS on Sunday, December 22, ~2 PM.
- $125 buy-in for the first ten players willing to commit to showing up.
- First place wins $1,125 (includes $25 for driving expenses); second gets their $125 buy-in back.
- If you can't make it on December 22, PM me the specific dates that you can commit to showing up. Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and possibly Monday and Thursday nights may be available.
- Blind structure and rules will simulate that of the WPT $1,100 event. The "Skill Level" will be the highest level of 6, but the blind length will be reduced to make the RFS finish at a reasonable time.
- Equity percentage of ~15%. If you will only play with a certain equity % range, let me know what it is and the dates you can commit to.
- Self-dealt to avoid paying rake for a dealer; I'll be willing to deal for those who prefer not to deal when it's their turn.
If this first RFS gets enough support, then we can have more RFS for the $2,500 and $5,000 events. Let me know if you have any questions, but please no trolling in this poker thread.

why do you think that is, any theories? You seem generally disgruntled by it in some of your postings. Maybe the majority here are just casual home gamers with the occasional casino cash game thrown in? Curious on your thoughts..
There will be 650 entrants in the $970+$330 WPT Fallsview event, so unless I didn't think I was among the top 650 players in the Ontario area, I would at least take shot at a RFS. Anyway, the reasons you're asking for were probably discussed in Wetts1012's Why this Site Will Eventually Shut Down. I learned a lot from many forumers when I first joined here as a :fish: so maybe I'm disappointed that from the MANY people I have been reconnecting with since I've gone back to playing live, almost none of them are from the forum where I learned how to become a winning player.
Of all the people saying "I cant wait until the satellites start!", theyd rather pay rake than not?
And of all the people that are actually going to buy in, theyd rather pay full price than try to get in for 1/10th of the cost?
damn, that $25 to $100 project must be going well! ^-^
Will be at fallsview fri dec 20 for sattys and or cash game.
There are no pros left in this forum, but there are a bunch of pros I keep seeing at Fallsview.
in this case, the problem for me is the date. 3 days before Christmas is not the opprtune time to be taking a Sunday afternoon away from the family to play poker.
Generally, as Comp said, poker is a hobby for most people on this site. Not many of us can afford the money or time these larger buy-in tourneys consume. Many of us balance work, family, and other interests, leaving maybe a couple hours a week for poker. The RFS are a great way to "dream" about playing a big tourney, and maybe luck into one, without laying out the cash. But it still has to fit into our "spare time".
To expect any more than that from the members of this site will surely lead to increased blood pressure on your end.
Just sayin'.
Any interest in doing a Stars MTT like this? IE. Play a $5+0.50 Home game tourney, but have the actual buy-in EMT'd in to one person. Probly the only way I'd be able to get involved in these.
No blood pressure issues. I'm able to look on the positive side that it is easier for me to keep taking down first place at sold-out Casino Brantford, Rama and Woodbine by not having to play against any forumers.
I think we're both better off just playing the upcoming PartyPoker qualifiers. If either of us wins the package but our better half can't come as the guest, then one of us can be the guest!
A man has to know his limitations.
As implied by my original post when I used the phrase "spare time", my availability is unknown and fluid. If you keep posting RFS that you are planning, one may eventually fit into my schedule, but certainly not until after the new year. Also, I may even be able to host one, which I will post on here if it arises.
Generally, I am available most Friday or Saturday evenings.
I'd also be interested in playing an online satellite like the one T8 mentioned. Sounds like a good idea to me.
Fortunately, a couple of friends in Mississauga have found enough poker players and are willing to host near Square One shopping mall, so hopefully I can post a definitive RFS Mississauga thread soon.
Are you talking about the $5 games on Sundays and Thursdays? I don't think there's much overlap in the player pool that play those games vs those that'd be interested in a $100-$300 satellite.
I don't know what the interest in an online satellite would be but just throwing out that I'd personally be interested in something like what T8 mentioned and could more easily fit something like that in my schedule.
You're welcome to sign up for the online forum games. Have you ever been out? Sundays and Thursdays.
