Announcing Royal Cup XII (Oct 20th, 2012) Discussion thread, Same venue in Cambridge.

Oct 20th is now the confirmed date... Venue confirmed, same as last time..

The Royal Cup of Poker XII will take place at the same location as the last one.

The Royal Cup is a team event, consisting of 8 players, in which each member of your team plays 3 different SNG's as well as one heads up NL match. Points are received based on finishing position in the SNG's and are accumulated between all your team members. The team with the highest point value at the end of the event are declared the champions. The point system is at the bottom of this thread for reference.

The schedule/blind structure will not change from what is posted below. Please arrive as early as possible

Schedule

10:00 - 10:30 Registration.
10:30-10:45 Rules. If you have questions before hand just ask.
CARDS FLY AT 10:45 Sharp.

Captains will collect their teams entry fees and pay me directly the full $400 amount.

Side pots are as usual. These are strictly optional but do add some fun to the day. The side pots are $2 each.

Our 50/50 Points draw is an event where you pull a players name out of a hat and if they are the days MVP you will split the pot with them. So the pot goes to the MVP and the person holding their card.

Also, each variation of poker that day will have a High Hand Jackpot.

Omaha
Stud
FL Holdem
NL Holdem

For all the SNGs you must show your hand to be eligible but a showdown does not need to occur. In the Hold em SNGs you must use your 2 hole cards to be eligible for the high hand jackpot.

So for $8 you can enter all the side pots.

These will be the rules for the Stud SNGs
Antes are paid and then the dealer deals 2 cards down and one up per player
After the first three cards have been dealt, the player showing the lowest up card must make what is called a "bring-in" bet.
The bring-in bet, by the way, is the only significant time and place in poker where card suits come into play. The highest suit is spades, followed by hearts, diamonds, and clubs
After the action has been completed on the opening round, the dealer gives a face-up card to each player remaining in the game. The dealing will go in a tradition clockwise fashion. Unlike the first round, where the lowest hand was forced to start the action, in this second betting round, the highest hand on board has the option to start the betting; that is, the player showing the highest hand is called upon first to either bet or check.
On fifth street, you receive your third up card, and then there is a round of betting, again started by the highest hand on board. (This person may be different then the first bettor on 4th street).
Sixth street is virtually identical: an up card is dealt, the highest hand acts first.
The betting on seventh street is identical to sixth street, but the card dealt is the last card you will receive, and it is dealt face down.
There are 4 bets max per round unless heads up where the betting is unlimited.

  • Anything wrong with going back to where we were on Saturday? Or was this freebie a one-time thing?

lol, that was sort of tounge in cheek,,,
  • Okay, I have apparently misplaced my sarcasm gene as well. think they did a pretty good "handle" on RC-XI, as they did not have much traffic on the course.

agreed, just have to decide on a suitable date... If no one seriously objects, like Oct 27th is some religious holiday or something, in the next few days, we'll book it...

    fyp...
  • October traffic ought to be about what it was yesterday in terms of golfers - so I would expect they'd be happy for a bunch of additional snack bar/lounge revenue.

I was impressed with how many of us adhered to and respected the "no outside food and drink" rule. There were a few but nothing overly egregious imo.

    Grinders will attend in October.
  • The Saturday before Hallowe'en may be tough for those of us with kids attending parties.
  • Nail this date down I will make sure I take the day off to attend, course then I need a team to be on too LOL.
  • Let's make it happen!

What about the weekend before, Oct 20 or the weekend after, Nov 3rd?

Anyone have any serious concerns with those? I want to get this booked reasonably soon so no one has excuses..^-^
  • Go with that date. I don't see the issue. If you have children then someone has to be home anyways and can take the socialite to their party.

Obviously if Moose doesn't see the issue there can't be one. Regardless of the two previous posts by two reasonable adults.

KitWho? Will be there Oct 20 or Nov 4 (and the 27th, but, why not work around it).

My kids are older but, I still thought of the 27th of being a busy Sat night for adults/Kids partys.
  • I just consulted the births in Canada statistics and there were a lot of birthdays around Oct 20 and Nov 4 and I expect my kid is likely to be invited to some kids party those days.
  • As long as it's not Nov. 11th as my kids will no doubt have some Remembrance Day parties.

I don't care personally, pick whichever of those dates that suit the most as I've never heard of Hallowe'en parties for kids other than that night. I always thought Saturday Pre-Hallowe'en parties were an adult thing and considering the ability for the Royal to now finish at a reasonable time, even those shouldn't be overly affected.

    This! ^^^

My vote is for Oct. 20th or Nov. 3rd.
  • It's worth contacting the golf course since very likely one of those 3 Saturdays will be their member closing day and won't be available.

    There's a good idea.

I was only pointing out a possible reason why the 27th wouldn't work. Obviously if the other dates are available, why bother to risk the conflict?

I kid Johnnie! I don't know how serious others are but there's no reason a week before or later is a problem now.

It's getting to the point where I think maybe I am a bully. Please take 90% of what I post as blatant sarcasm....I don't ever want to have to use smilies.

    Prefer Nov 3

  • +2 . . . though, given my play at RC-XI, this may be academic.
  • Grinders should be available for any of the three dates mentioned - firm something up, let us know and we will put together our team accordingly (hopefully the same eight will be available...if not, therè`s plenty of time to find alternates).
  • Nov 3 is out for me...

    Oct 20th?
  • Really want to get this nailed down, Oct 20th is the earliest date I think, if we want to use the same location.... Nov 3rd is out since we need Al as TD.. So what do we do? Seems like none of the dates are perfect, even this far out.. Is Nov 10th too late? All are good with the Rocks, and myself personally...
  • Jeff, simply book it and let us decide if we can attend or not. You'll NEVER find the PERFECT date, but if you just say the hall is booked for a specific date now, the rest of us can plan around it. Those who cant' make it, well, simply loose out.
  • +1 for str82ace...just book it then I can attemp to get that saturday off and make it HA.

    QFMFT!

Grinders will field a team for whatever date you choose - the only thing will be the roster but that's my problem ^-^

    Looking forward to it.
