BAP question

please move if this is the wrong section for this type of question..

Alright..so let's say I sell off X% of an event which costs x dollars.

you buy 10% of that event, and for some reason, whatever it may be, I get knocked out early and opt to rebuy to the event on my own dollars...what would this effectively do to your 10%? Reduce it to 5% as you are only paying that portion of the total buy in now? Or would it still be a 10% cut regardless or is this something that is determined before the start of the beginning of the tourney?

Ideally this is figured out before hand for rebuys.

If its a freeze with a reentry its a grey area a difficult to verify or accept from a buyers perspective other than the honour system.

Effectively I am buying 10% of you for that particular tournament buyin which was negotiated prior to the event. If that buyin changes (in this case doubles) that should not be on the backer.

To avoid, I would either not re-enter where I am backed, or freeroll the backer if I do re-enter. It just avoids difficulties afterwords.
  • Like wetts says that rebuys / reentry should be negotiated in advance. Any rebuys not used are simply returned to the overall winnings.

If you were to reenter, the best you could hope for is to recoup your extra buyins before determining your winnings, but would be frowned upon and could cause issues in the future
  • For all BAP's, you want to clearly state your intentions and clarify the most common issues that will occur, like how much you're selling, what events you're playing, how you're dealing with taxes, etc.

For rebuy/re-entry tournaments, I think most online BAPs estimates how many buy in's they will use for the entire event...and refund any unused portion. They also will state what they will do if they burn through the rebuy's.

I don't see this being that different in live tournaments. It may be more difficult for you to prove/show how many entries you have used live, but it's up to the people buying your action to decide if they will trust you and/or your references before investing.
  • What Wetts/Hobbes says - if you are playing in a live tourney that allows re-entries, either free-roll your backers or not re-enter.

If tourney is unlimited re-entry, I would personally assume 2-3 entries in total and refund any unused after-the-fact. And if you continue to re-enter (should you keep busting), the choice is yours but backers should not have to pay further after initial investment (unless it was discussed prior to the start on the event). And obviously if it allows a fixed number of re-entry, collect the max (I can't imagine a fixed limit bigger than 2 unless it's unlimited) and refund all un-used
  • ok, thanks all...just wanted to clarify that whole reentry bit...and yeah, sounds like the best option is just not re-entering (or freeroll the backers if one does). Makes it simple.

Personally I prefer collecting in advanced...but that's just me
  • one other quick thought..what if you collect for the entries, then manage to satellite in cheaper on your own buck? Is that frowned upon as well?

So long as the tourney is played, it's not frowned upon.
You backers backed you for the tournament, they don't care how you pay for it (even if you have to man-whore yourself :) )
  • I had to click the new "like" button to see what it did..lol

man whore...well, quarters add up fast you know..
