Brag - Why slow playing a premium pair can kill you

Was playing on FTP in a 5.5 SNG, blinds are still low, 30/60. I am in the SB and get dealt 63 of diamonds. UTG limps in and all fold to me. Normally I would just chuck my hand here if I was facing a raise, but the blinds were low so I limped. Flop came 395, 2 diamonds. Led off with a min bet, two callers. Another 3 on the turn. Pot-sized bet, BB folds, UTG re-raises, putting me all-in. With trips and a flush draw I call. He shows QQ, my 3's hold.

This hand should have never occurred, at least not in a SNG when the blinds are low. I WILL OCCASIONALLY slow play premium hands late in a SNG and I am a Big Stack trying to trap/re-raise a small stack, but early is not the time. If he raised pre-flop, or on the flop, I was gone....

  • Sounds like a cash game player to me.

IN THEORY, If he flops a monster, he could stack you. It's great when it occasionally works, but it doesn't work enough to make it profitable in the long run.

Clearly he didn't want to get burned by pumping the pot then getting outflopped by and weak Ace or King.
  • I'm baffled by UTG's call on the flop. Wow. He's not going to fool anyone trying to represent a 3. My guess is, he knew he screwed up and was crossing his fingers you had A9. Hope he learned his lesson.

I hope he didn't learn his lesson and you put him on your buddy list :D
