My First Chat Ban on Stars!

I actually never, ever use profanity or hate based language, though I am not afraid to be very condescending in a "polite" way to those who do. Still, I earned my first chat ban on Stars (for 3 hours). Happened in a DoN today (tourney number 171277929 for those inclined to see it all) , and I will filter out the betting to show the full context of the chat. The hand that sparked it all will be posted at the end, ironically a fairly standard hand vs a bad player.

Kind of wish I got my first temp chat ban on a chat that better deserved it :P I will not deny there have been times where I certainly expected it (not so much this time though).

Anyway...

The hand that caused all the problems, even if he had the straight its a close but ok call ( I am a 59/41 dog assuming he does not have a flush draw as well), and he certainly plays all sorts of hands in that spot, though he played his hand fine.

  • wow....seems to me that what he said was much worse.
  • No doubt aaashipit got a chat ban as well. Likely reported to the chat mods by another player at the table who wasn't involved in the war. They may have just complained to Stars about the other guy's behaviour, but since Monteroy also broke the rules...

Good job. Well worth the meaningless penalty. :)
  • awesome......great job Monty......I haven't even earned my first yet
  • Speaking of chat, I had a scary situation occur on Full Tilt a couple of months ago. I beat a guy heads up in a 9 person $6.50 SnG to win the tourney, and he called me a cocksucker...at least I believe thats what the asterisks spelled out. ;) My "mature" response was "Nyah Nyah".
Anyways, i bought into another SnG, and this asshole comes into the chat box as an observer and tells all of the players that they should not play against me as I had made sexually suggestive comments to his 13 yr old son!
I was speechless!! and madder than hell! I kept my cool and commented to all the other players, that this guy was some kind of psycho sore loser and that I had just beaten him in a tournament. He continued to tell all that he was in the process of getting Full Tilt admin. to either press charges against me, or give up my personal information so that he could do it himself! Luckily, other players at the table started questioning why his 13 yr old would be on the poker site, and why the kid would be "chatting" with me when it was he, who was playing in the tournament. He finally disappeared, and the other players at the table gave supportive comments to me. I was so rattled by this that I intentionally bailed from the tourney and contacted Full Tilt admin to check the chat for both tournaments, and ban this fucker for life!!!
They sent me an email saying that they had suspended his account for "an appropriate amount of time given the seriousness of the offence"...You guessed it....3 hours!!!! It just pisses me off that nothing more was done about this.
  • Correct me if I'm wrong here guys but I don't think Monty got the 3 hour ban for the sex comments, it was the lifetime stats thing. I've gotten a ban before because a guy started quoting my shark stats and I threw it right back at him, which he then reported. Pathetic, yes, but it's the way they roll.

    Poker Stars Card Room Rules:
    2. Abusive, foul, or inappropriate chat will not be tolerated.

Pretty broad. I would not consider the sex comment to be over the line.

"you are a dead money guy" ... "know your role" definitely rates as abusive ... and funny.

Yeah - as long as these sh**-talking a**holes are regularly paying even the smallest amount of rake, the sites will bend over backwards to NOT risk losing their business. Unfortunately, these guys need to be busted for infractions a number of times before any real penalty is levied.

A year ago, I came across a really vile talker from Montreal (using a Canadiens logo as his icon) on PokerStars. Although all his crap (your sister takes it up the azz, etc, etc...) was directed at players other than me, it really pissed me off. I felt like he was giving all Canadians a bad rep, and so I reported him. First offense - chat ban lasting 24 hours or less.

Knowing Stars would do next to nothing on a first (as far as I knew it) offense and given that the guy's horrible behaviour was 100% unprovoked (therefore likely to happen again soon), I put him on my buddy list.

Found him on a table the next day. Within less than one minute - the same type of disgusting talk. Reported him. Second chat ban lasted ??

Found him on a table a week later. Chat available to him again. In less than 5 minutes - same crap. Reported him. Third chat ban lasted ??

After being busted 3 times in the span of a week, the guy probably thinks Stars is watching him. I did come across him 3-4 times over the next few months. Virtually no chat of any kind and no sign at all of abusive stuff. Maybe Stars finally threatens to get tough with these twits on a fourth offense?
  • Welcome to the club I've had that before, though at least next time go out like a champ and say some really vulgar stuff, you didn't deserve this one ;)
  • lol

He thinks you bad beat him... I love Omaha

I've never really played Omaha, but from watching, isn't it kind of call to the river and hope you full house don't lose to quads?
  • Thanks for the comments. It is fun to let off steam once in a while against guys like this (I was having an annoying night losing to 95/0 guys all night), but I never use base level swearing type stuff because I find this type of trash talk is more more insulting.

Saying you are going to rape someone's sister? Whatever, that has probably been in a bad rap song. I never find things like that actually offensive other then they show a complete lack of creativity and a serious lack of brain power. I am also always impressed when a guy does the unintentionally ironic combo of " u r a fag" and follows it up with how he plans on having another player suck his balls.

I was surprised that this was the chat I was banned for. Maybe it was the lifetime stats thing but I am pretty careful never to be specific on that area (ie: if I see someone has lost a ton lately I will ask "so maam, how have you been doing in these tourneys lately?" I do not see how my "sex" comment would be offensive as it was not passing any direct judgment so much as rephrasing what he essentially said in a simpler form he would understand.

The irony of it usually is the guy who started this is the typical trash talker of his type, a single table playing bad player. Often they are bad when they do not know how bad they are (as they know what "good starting hands are" but will not get that folding to a 40 chip bet into a 1200 chip pot makes no sense). In tournaments you see this all the time when people have no concept at all of adjusting their play based on the payout structure of the tournament.

Anyway, overall I thought it was a bit entertaining.
