World Poker Showdown and Canadian Poker Tour Combine efforts....

WPS and the CPT have combined efforts to bring the HardRock Vegas Megastack Event Series. The Series will take place from August 7th through the 24th. It is being dubbed the "Canadian Invasion". After a fantistic showing at the 2009 Canadian Poker Open by our own, our boys are taking it to their turf. Buy ins start at $340 dollars and sats will also be played. Hope some more Canucks in Vegas at the time will bring their game and represent!

  • any room rate deals for Canadians?
  • Oh that sucks, wish they had this last year during this time
  • Is there a WPS website?

Sounds pretty good, especially the $1000 PLO

    Nevermind........too lazy to google....now googled

  • Will there be sattelites on any online site?
  • I know they had sats for the Canadian Open, I will ask if there is and if so check with Graham if it is ok to post them
  • Yes there is a World Poker Showdown Website, google will get you there.

Don't want to post links till I know the forum rules, but WPS throws some snazzy locations
  • The CPT is expected to put out a press release in the next few days. One thing I believe is included is WestJet deals for CPT members. I will message Kelly and ask about room deals. Thanks for all the questions guys!
  • Me like the snazzy locations!

    Costa Rica, November 6-15
    Dominican Republic, January 15-25, 2010
Caribbean Poker Cruise in the largest cruise ship ever built, April 25 - May 2, 2010.

  • Here is the reply regarding room rates and deals:
Rooms are available at a tourney rate of $99 at the Hard Rock by asking for the poker tournament rate. Westjet Airlines is offering a 10% discount during the event window by entering the promo code QC6121.
Hope this helps some Canadian poker plans, I want to see our boys and of course girls, rock them on their own turf!

Still trying to find out about sats.

Thanks for the interest! Once June is over I want to get all over this forum and meet everyone.

Us players in the West love our poker, I am a huge fan of poker chat.

    Talk soon,

    Jon
  • Where you at Jon? Anything happening at the Edgewater or River Rock? Gonna be there for a few days at the end of August playing..but, would make a plan to come down for a satellite or three...:)

Tournament fees a tad high on some of the events, but other than that it's not a bad place to be during that time if not in Monte Carlo.

WPS will have some heavy competition with those dates tho, Jan with Aussie Millions and PCA, while the Cruise with Monte Carlo
  • I am in Calgary, will be in Vegas after at the same time as the events, most likely it will be the $550 or $340 NL I take a stab at, I am getting closer at these buyin levels. I am gonna post an intro right now and I see some members have their blogs attached. I use alot of links in mine to good articles I find in my travels, what are the forums policies on that? Going to post in the intro, glad to finally find a Canadian Forum!
  • I definately want to go to this but I somehow will have to convine the wife to let me go.

    hmmmm

    Hmm...you said West. ;)
  • See Canadian Poker Tour Secures Deal With WestJet Airlines For Its Members. I want to go around August 16-25 and play at least the three $290 Super Satellites on August 21. Anybody else flying down?
  • I talked to David at Hard Rock and he said they will have single table sats running right from the begining of August, which pay out cash and he said "Our players are adults and can decide how to allocate that money" which, alot of players should like.

I have the question in now as to whether there will be anything to help with holding taxs.

CPT confirmed with me today the the 888 (Pacific Poker) sat packages will start tommorow and the "landing page to advertizing them up Monday. Use the banner here at PokerForum.ca to sign up for any new accounts if you are intrested in playing for those packages!

The blind structures for live events are up at this link, they have done a great job geting all the info up as the players are requesting, and it includes structures for $120 and $290 super sats.

    Hope this all helps!
  • Can anybody that has 888 please confirm if/when the CPT satellites are available in the tournament lobby? Here is another article about next month's Mega Stack events:

'The emphasis is on more chips, more play and more value. "We are giving players exactly what they have been asking for," says Kelly B. Kellner, President of the Canadian Poker Tour. "With this structure, players get tremendous value and can be assured of a well run event by our top notch tournament directors."

Part of the attraction of this event is 'The Canadian Invasion", as players from across Canada will be travelling to Las Vegas courtesy of a 10% discount on regular priced airfares from WestJet Airlines and a special $99 room rate at the Hard Rock Hotel. Plus, all events will award qualifying points for the CPT's 'Player of The Year' race.'

  • Don't see them in the lobby. All I see for live event satellites is the APT Macau
  • Gonna have to look into it, thats strange...
  • I heard that all the $550s are now $340+10. There is also a hidden 3% fee taken out of the prize pool. So in fact these are now $291 + $40 (rake) + $10 (dealer addon) + $9 (staff fee). 16.9% total rake.
  • I am here and the events are a blast, but yes they have reduced to a $340.

Most of the travelling players plan on being here closer to the main event. The 3% to the staff is not that strange, I will cough it up to party in Vegas.

Back shortly, gonna post some quick results
  • The 3% fee is actually very common, but always posted. Unfortunately the hardrock does not have this posted anywhere.
  • Not always. WPT Fallsview and WPS Dominican Republic are a couple of examples I know where the prize pool didn't add up with my calculations, and I had to enquire to find out about the undisclosed percentage withheld for staff.
